    Default Old Serbian Tavern Song

Could anyone translate this old Serbian song to English ?? I heard the Skadarlija singers' version on You Tube. Thank you very much ... Bozidar

    Na kraj sora cadjava mehana,
    trsta strsi glava necesljana,
    posrnula od teskoga pica -
    to je kuca seoskih golica.

    Pomrcina, celo selo spava.
    Sa toronja ponoc otkucava.
A sto kuca ? Mari l' ko za sate ?
    Sati biju tek' da prozanate.

A u krcmi "Kod zlatnog bokala"
    razlezu se glasi od cimbala.
    Momcadija, salaj, tera kera,
    krcmarica dobra ne zamera.

    'Amo vina, krcmarice plava,
iz bureta na kom' macak spava.
Nek' je staro k'o moj cukundeka,
    a vatreno kao tvoja cerka.
    Na kraj sora cadjava mehana
    (continued)

    Gle meseca, al' se nakrivio.
    Na jedno je oko zazmurio,
    a drugo je sasvim zatvorio.
Sram ga bilo, i on se napio.

Ko to lupa na moj pendzer tako ?
Zar vi momci ne znate polako ?
Moj Milenko leg'o je da spava,
od te lupe zabole ga glava.

Thanks, here are the words with the correct letters.

    Na kraj šora čađava mehana,
    trsta strši glava nečešljana,
    posrnula od teškoga pića -
    to je kuća seoskih golića.

    Pomrčina, celo selo spava.
    Sa toronja ponoć otkucava.
A što kuca? Mari l' ko za sate?
    Sati biju tek' da prozanate.

A u krčmi "Kod zlatnog bokala"
    razležu se glasi od cimbala.
    Momčadija, šalaj, tera kera,
    krčmarica dobra ne zamera.

    'Amo vina, krčmarice plava,
iz bureta na kom' mačak spava!
Nek' je staro k'o moj čukundeka,
    a vatreno kao tvoja ćerka!

    Gle meseca, al' se nakrivio.
    Na jedno je oko zažmurio,
    a drugo je sasvim zatvorio.
Sram ga bilo, i on se napio!

Ko to lupa na moj pendžer tako?
Zar vi momci ne znate polako?
Moj Milenko leg'o je da spava,
od te lupe zabole ga glava.

Sorry, I can only use Google and some of it doesn't make sense. Maybe Marius or some of the others can do it.

    Na kraj šora čađava mehana,
At the end of the street (there is) a sooty tavern
    trsta strši glava nečešljana,
From it there is an uncombed head hanging (the first two words I improviSED )
    posrnula od teškoga pića -
    Stumbled from the hard booze
    to je kuća seoskih golića.
That's the house of the village men (actualy, golića = naked men, in literal translation, or "men that have nothing", in my poetic one.. hard to translate it in just one word here, so I hope u get the meaning...)

    Pomrčina, celo selo spava.
It's dark, the whole village is asleap
    Sa toronja ponoć otkucava.
From the tower midnight is ticking
A što kuca? Mari l' ko za sate?
Why is it ticking? Who cares about the time..
    Sati biju tek' da prozanate.
Hours are passing just so they do something

A u krčmi "Kod zlatnog bokala"
And in the "At the Golden Pitcher" tavern
    razležu se glasi od cimbala.
The sound of dulcimer (cimbalo-music instrument) are heard
    Momčadija, šalaj, tera kera,
The guys are laughing and joking around
    krčmarica dobra ne zamera.
Good waitress (or alewife, as I found out..) doesn't mind..

    'Amo vina, krčmarice plava,
    'Give us wine, blond-haired waitress
iz bureta na kom' mačak spava!
From the barell on which the cat sleeps
Nek' je staro k'o moj čukundeka,
Let it be as old as my grangrandfather
    a vatreno kao tvoja ćerka!
And as hot as your daughter

    Gle meseca, al' se nakrivio.
Look at the moon, he is all tillted
    Na jedno je oko zažmurio,
He has partly closed one eye
    a drugo je sasvim zatvorio.
And the other one he closed completely
Sram ga bilo, i on se napio!
Shame on him, he's drunk also!

Ko to lupa na moj pendžer tako?
Who's banging on my window like that
Zar vi momci ne znate polako?
Can't you guys take it slow?
Moj Milenko leg'o je da spava,
My Milenko has gone to sleep
od te lupe zabole ga glava.
His head hurts from all that banging

That was fast and very hard, cause this is a pretty old song, with some words u donćt hear often these days.. Hope u get the meaning at least, that's where I was going with the translation...
