Default The Man With the Answer

Country style, a story in rhyme.

    The Man With the Answer
    ------------------------

    We met on a hilltop,
    it was past midnight
he had no cigars and I had no light
he wanted to put all things right.

And the Man With the Answer
    spoke, feeble and weak
(for he was so humble and he was so meek)
    "I know whence, why, whither,
    I know when and how;
    but I must go thither
    to milk granny's cow.
This business of saving the world I'll resume,
    time permitting, sometime in June."

    Chorus:
The Man With the Answer is quiet and meek,
and wise but too nice, all too mellow and weak.
That's why you and me, we will follow the strong
    - even though they always get it all wrong...

    Next time we met outside
    a bank on a run.
I had no glass and, well, he had no rum.
"The cow's gone," he sighed, and wiped off a tear.
"...and granny as well, oh my dear, oh my dear..."

The Man With the Answer said:
    "See all the fear?
See all the shooting and looting and gear?
    The collapse I saw well before it all came;
for I am the Man With the Name of the Game.
I know why we cry and I know why we try.
    I'll tell you the Answer,
    we'll sort this all out...
Except I must go, see my wife has this gout..."

And the Man With the Answer
    was gone in a flash
    just like our freedom,
    our future and cash.
The banks, they did go on to crash.

    Chorus:
The Man With the Answer is quiet and meek,
and wise but too nice, all too mellow and weak.
That's why you and me, we will follow the strong
    - even though they always get it all wrong...

I met him one last time
    on Roosevelt's grave.
I had no more butter and he had no grains.
The land was all smokin' and black with the death
of mankind or all that we knew by that name.

The Man With the Answer had nothing to say,
except "I should've known things would end up this way."
Well, maybe the next thing, whatever that be
can be braver than that man or me.

    Chorus:
The Man With the Answer is quiet and meek,
and wise but too nice, all too mellow and weak.
That's why you and me, we will follow the strong
    - even though they always get it all wrong...
