    Foule sentimentale
    On a soif d' idéal
Attiré par les étoiles les voiles
    Que des choses pas commerciales.
    Foule sentimentale
Il faut voir comme on nous parle
    Comme on nous parle

"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"

@Frankie!!! Edith Piaf was one of the voices which scores of singers have pitfully tried to "imitate" (Y.U.K ). One of her outstanding successes
was this song "La Foule "; The original Peruvian was in Spanish ("Que Nadie Se Pa Mi Sufrir") , sometimes also known as "Amor de Mis Amores".
You probably know that Piaf was suffering from a very bad kind of rheumatism, but insisted to perform inspite of everything.
Her biggest" discovery", if one can say so, has been Charles Aznavour: without her he might never have become famous....

And one more, the French version of New Zealand's Kimbra (whom I love): (Please let me know if there's profanity--I'll remove it!)

Oh those talent shows with little girls singing Adele! It's a sort of contemporary plague, really

The lady below also started early. But the repertoire matched her age and style.

IMHO this was the best song of ESC in 2010 and also one of the best songs ever sung in this competition. It didn't win but received two prizes from the Special Jury of musicians. It's very very very French in style so small wonder French lyrics were quickly written to it. Please forgive Harel his French (far from perfect but he's too adorable not to be placed here in this thread)

BTW, Enoooooo, what is the French word for a guy that's a cute dish???

This Algerian/French singer, ENRICO MACIAS , is known throughout the world.
I have always liked his voice and somewhat melancholic melodies:

Oh you, guitar, my guitar, open your heart to me
sing for me, sing underneath my fingers but sing of happiness
if I have put inside your andalusian heart too many sighs in your opinion
just go for the superfluous tears and let's not talk about them any more

    ...
my guitar talks, a bird is hiding itself inside your voice,
and the gate it's guarding for the two of us, is somewhere there,
there, you see, is the secret garden where nothing ever dies
there, the evenings are all next mornings at the gate of my hand....

    Eternal dilemma.

Rien à lui dire / There's nothing to tell him
Il sait bien que j'ai tout à donner / He knows well I got everything to give
Rien qu'un sourire à l'attendre, à vouloir le gagner / There's nothing to do but to smile waiting for him, wanting to win his heart
Mais qu'elles sont tristes mes nuits / But how sad my nights are
Le temps me parait long / The time seems so long
Et je n'ai pas appris a me passer de lui ... / And I haven't yet learned how to live without him

    Refrain :
Il est si près de moi Pourtant je ne sais pas comment l'aimer /He's so close to me and that's why I don't know how to love him
Lui seul peut décider qu'on se parle d'amour ou d'amitié.. /Only he can decide whether we talk about love or friendship
Moi je l'aime et je peux lui offrir ma vie / As for me I love him and can offer him my life
Même s'il ne veut pas de ma vie / Even if he doesn't want it
Je rêve de ses bras, oui, mais je ne sais pas comment l'aimer / I dream of his arms, yeah, but I don't know how to love him
Il a l'air d'hésiter entre une histoire d'amour ou d'amitié / He seems to be hesitating between (a story of) love and friendship
Et je suis commme une île en plein océan / And I am like an island in the open ocean
On dirait que mon coeur est trop grand / It looks like my heart is too big

I'm joining everyone to heartily welcome you in here, Frankie!!

And what an opening with such a beautiful song!! I'm not living in Paris but I like it a lot. No matter what you're looking for, if you're opening your heart and your eyes to its very special rhythm, you might certainly find it.
