In the "mental dawn" between sleeping and waking, I awoke with the words and music of "Whispers," sung by a male . . . The music was rock ballad, but during composing, it evolved to a crossover country-rock ballad:
“WHISPERS”
Sittin’ in my chair
Sittin’ thinkin’
I don’t care
Until I cannot breathe
I’m hearin’ whispers
I’m hearin’ whi-is-pers of
Leave!
Lord, how can this be?
I’m not over
I’m not over
Can-not
Lea---------ee-eave [musical arch]
Thinkin’s goin’ nowhere
Thinkin’s overrated
Cares, they’re not
Dissipatin’
I just sit and stare
Looking for somewhere, where
I’m not hearin’ whispers
I’m not hearin’ whi-is-pers of
Leave.
Wasn’t it just yesterday
We promised
We would sta-a-ay?
I just can’t believe
I’m hearin’ whispers
I’m hearin’ whispers of
Leave.
Lord, how can this be?
I’m not over
I’m not over
Can-not
Lea---------ee-eave [musical arch]
You were beautiful
I was wonderful
Life was syncopated
Never hesitated
To conceive
We’d be hearin’ whispers
We’d be hearin’ whi-is-pers of
Lea-ee-eave
Lea-ee-eave
Lea-ee-eave
Leave.
Where’s it comin’ from?
To think that we are done
Is it you or is it me?
Lord, how can this be?
I’m not over
I’m not over
Can-not
Leave.
I'm hearin' whispers
I'm hearin' whispers of
Leave.
Wow,Frankie, this is real good!I sang it,the Lea-ee-eave part is great. When I first read it,it actually thought you were singing about "tree leaves"!!When it comes to "trees singing" (Johnb31)or or "people leaving"I always seem to mix up the metaphor!I'm so glad to see someone else online today.I walked already, ready to go again.Keep on rocking, the New Year needs it!
Thanks, Doug! Coming from you, this means so much. Well, I kind of set myself up for the "leave" misunderstanding, Doug, since I'm such a big "love nature" person and all.
