    Default What Have I Become

    There was a day
    Long ago
    I saw a man
    He was alone
    He stared down
    Into the sand
    Getting lost in the land
    Never able to breathe
    Never able to see
    But then one day
    He looked into the mirror

    "Chorus"
How did I become this way
How did I live so faraway
    From what I was
    Becoming something
    That I'm not
And here I am on the ground
    Without a place where
    I can be found
    What have I become

I saw the man one day
    Sitting on the street
    I walked up to him
And asked what happened to you
Are you ok, do you need some change
    And he said
    I need to learn
    How to move
    And then one day
    He looked into the mirror
    "Chorus"
How did I become this way
How did I live so faraway
    From what I was
    Becoming something
    That I'm not
And here I am on the ground
    Without a place where
    I can be found
    What have I become
    "Bridge"
    Well I'm the man
    On the ground
And today I can be found
In a house with a family
With a dog ,and a mouse
    I rose from the ground
    And look at me now
If I can do it so can you
    You just have to move
    You just have to take
    A deep breath
    And move
    "Chorus"
How did I become this way
How did I live so faraway
    From what I was
    Becoming something
    That I'm not
And here I was on the ground
    Without a place where
    I could be found
    What have I become
    What have I become

Saw a homeless man not too long ago and thought will there be a day when he looks back at this moment wondering how he was unable to help him self. As I walked by the man he told me to have a nice night and have fun in what ever I do and I thought for a moment as I put pointless change into my pocket. He's no different than me hes a human just like me with problems and joys but he seemed so much more happy than I was he seemed to be at peace. So I realized how thankful I should be because here was a man who didnt have anything in yet he was thankful to be alive.

John,I love this piece.I like that, for once, you wrote and great piece that didn't bring me down.It reminded me of "Old Man"by Neil Young. As far as your comment goes.......I used to be very sympathetic to the homeless folks and gave them any "spare change"I might be carrying. Now,I have to "play hop scotch"to not step in their waste. Now,I feel they are bums that should get off the streets and off the bottle.

The streets where I live are an open sewer
Smelling like urine and human manure. D.Denslowe 01/07/2013
