Default Orphans Of The American Dream (by RickeyJoe and 2numbers)

    Struggle on angry father
    Worry not weary mother
    Your children are safe
    In the hands of another
While they sleep you slip away
Who is giving them the news?
Four hours when you get home
    Will they have your virtues?

    Look at your children
    Innocence so pristine
    They are the orphans
    Of the American Dream

    The future for them
Is looking so very awfully grim
    There's no going back
It will never be the way it was again
    Our hope is taken apart
    Just a brick a day
When they say they can't make it
What are we supposed to say?

    Look at your children
    Innocence so pristine
    They are the orphans
    Of the American Dream

    (bridge)
    We were crushed
    By the economy
    What we said
    Was blasphemy
    The whole world
    Just turned away
    I'm sorry, son
    What else can I say?

    Work your fingers to bone
    Nose always to the grindstone
    Your children must work
Twice as hard just to get along
    While the elite drink champagne
    Who is paying their dues?
    8 days a week, 400 days a year
To get some slack on the noose

    Look at your children
    Innocence so pristine
    They are the orphans
    Of the American Dream

They are the orphans of the American dream....

    Some ****ing dream....

Will they still have your views.

    The future for them
    Is looking awfully grim
    There's no going back
    They just can't win

This one is really good, but I always thought America was the nation of hope and optimism. (unlike the grumpy old continent I live on). "Nose to the grindstone", "slack on the noose": compelling and powerful images.

Not anything like the stuff I try to write, but I really liked it. Lot of truth in it, great job.

    Well said!

"Old grumpy continent"= Europe (I suppose) is geographically and historically fascinating and thrilling, economically and politically in ruins...
The American Dream is indeed still alive- especially amongst Republicans- and as so very many there have at last started to realize that it is
dead and gone and only prevents new ways of thinking, it doesnot do them any good.
Good you dared to put it in round and clear words, lol
We got to move out of here altogether it seems!
