    Cool Thrift Shop Lady

    ****************
    Her perfume smells
    Like turpentine
    She buys it at
    The Five and Dime

    Rummage Sales, Flea Markets
    She likes hanging around
    But her favorite place is
    The Lost and Found

    Fe,Fi,fo,fum
    She marches to
    The beat
    Of her own drum

    My Thrift Shop Lady
    Aw,she's driving me crazy
    My Thrift Shop Lady
    Aw,she's driving me crazy
    My Thrift Shop Lady
    Aw,she's driving me crazy
    My Thrift Shop Lady
    Aw,she's driving me crazy

    Bracelets on her wrists
    Toe rings on her feet
She looks like a Gypsy Queen
    Off Haight Street

    Some call her sullen
    Some call her moody
    I can overlook it
    She's one rare beauty

    Fe,Fi,fo,fum
    She marches to
    The beat
    Of her own drum

    My Thrift Shop Lady
    Aw,she's driving me crazy
    My Thrift Shop Lady
    Aw,she's driving me crazy
    My Thrift shop Lady
    Aw,she's driving me crazy
    My Thift Shop Lady
    Aw,she's driving me crazy

Reminds me of a friend i once had in Glasgow, Doug.
What can I say? You're faithful to your style and that's good. A own identity is what we all look for.
It's like music: something you appreciate so much in music of 60's and 70's: immediately recognizable.
Compared to the "fast food products" of these modern days.

PS: What means this "shell be hanging around"...?

    Thanx as always!

Yes, indeed, Doug: You are always true to yourself and your style! This is a fun song. Thrift Shop Lady sounds as though she must be sister to Set Back Suzy (even the same "age"!). May I share a couple observations/suggestions with you? ... "Yes," you say? OK ...

    Her perfume smells
    Like turpentine
    She buys it at
    The corner Five and Dime(1)

    Rummage Sales and Flea Markets
    She'll be hanging around(2)
    But her favorite place is
    The Lost and Found

    (1) = The beat seems off to me. You are the drummer, though, so you know how you sing it. Since I can only "hear" it my way, I suggest:

    She buys it at
    The Five & Dime

    or

    Bought at the corner
    Five & Dime

    (2) = This "flow" sounds more natural to me:

    Rummage Sales, Flea Market bins
    She likes to hang around

Then, again, Doug. I've been quite out of the loop lately. Maybe my game's off. :S

Keep up the good work and let me know when then next one's posted please! Go, DOUG!

There is not enough space or time to truly let the song unwind

John,I'm glad you asked......I go for a long walk everyday to both stay in drumming shape, should the opportunity knock and to reacquaint myself with the hundreds of albums in my iPod.I was listening to the Rolling Stones albums "Aftermath"and "Flowers" which, among other songs, are "Stupid Girl"and "Under My Thumb".I just got into the vibe of those songs and there you have the inspiration!

Quick! Call Leno! Call Fallon! Get this some serious airtime now! Seriously. It's so awesome to see a song about a subject who isn't written about very often in mainstream music. We need more songs like this on the radio.

I believe I am also supposed to write something critical about this. But I can't find anything to criticize about the lyrics so I'll just complain about how there is no music video (that I know of) and I can't play it on my MP3 player either. So here goes: Complain. Complain. Complain. (tee hee). There that's the critical bit done, then.

Thank you Elegant! You don't have to find "something to complain about" while posting a "critique".Whatever's on your mind will do good or bad!Again, thanks for the kind words, they always seem to make my day when I receive a few kind words for my efforts!
