wow the Monkees and the Archies! I thought those guys were just urban legends but no I actually remember seeing reruns of both of those Tv shows years ago. And Sugar Sugar is a really cute song

Moon didn't know who these guys are so a little intro.....they're legends from early Punk Rock and they apparently inspired a lot of musicians going way back. I see hem mentioned a lot in some music circles and so on. This live vid is labeled as Lou Reed but it's from a VU album....

Lots of adolescent sentimental value in this song. When they regrouped in 2002 a local radio station started playing some of their old music, and I hunted down and bought the Bloodletting CD just because of this song....

    Actually, they were!
J/k, sort of. The Monkees' first major hit, "Last Train To Clarksville", was originally recorded by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, major songwriters of the '60s . Peter and gang re-recorded their vocals over the original, and that's how it was released and became a #1 hit.

Velvet Underground, Sweet Jane... I'd never heard the original, but I love the slow 'n smokey cover by the Cowboy Junkies:

The original video... reminds me of somebody

    [ejKUJu9xct4]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejKUJu9xct4[/video]

    One pill makes you larger
A-a-annd one pill makes you small,
And the ones that Mother gives you,
    Don't do-o-o-o anything at all.

    Go ask Alice
    When she's ten feet tall.

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
    Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar
    Has given you the call,

    To call Alice
    When she was just small.

    When men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low,

    Go ask Alice,
    I'll think she'll know.

    When logic and proportion
    Have fallen sloppy dead
And the white knight is talking backwards
And the red queen's "Off with her head!"

    Remember
    What the dormouse said:

    "Feed your head!"

    "Feed your head!"

I don't mean to seem "obsessed", but in my mind that is one helluva great piece of songwriting. And her voice. The style she applied, everything about the way she sang that song. Too bad it's so damn short.
There is no glamour in sudden death, and nobody ever wins a war.
