Hey Duffy - which of the two versions of "Ti sou' kana ke pinis" is better, in your opinion, and why?

The Panou version or the Mitropanos/Marinella version?

Also, if you had to speak for "Greeks" in general, which version would "Greeks" consider better?

(You have one hour to complete this essay exam ... heh heh heh ...)

    1) P.Panou's is better in my opinion. Plessas chose her for the feeling she could put on the song. The other version is good but tooooo emphasized form my ears.

    2) For those how know P.Panou. For others who can't find the difference between "σκυλάδικου" "sing like dogg" and art singing, all the modern remakes.

(Mitropanos did a mistake on lyrics, with only one "n". He says: "what they did to you" but the corect is: "what I did to you")

thanks for the quick response, and I'm really glad you think PP's version is on top.

Also. note that I've changed the title of the thread, in case I or anyone else want to ask you questions like this in the future without opening too many threads ...

Thanks, Tahira - don't know how I missed it. By the way, it's great that Apessos uploads so much stuff, I think.

Gee, Duffy - I just watched Tahira's vid of the Panou cut of the MT hasapiko, and I've got to say - that's one of the slowest hasapiko's I've ever heard. You have to be a GREAT dancer to dance a great hasapiko at that tempo (my opinion, of course.)

But now - I just watched your vid, and it's definitely faster ... more danceable, I think ...

So did Plessas also choose Ρένα Κουμιώτη for the original version of

Or did some company just assign her to do it?

Lefteris Papadopoulos happened to hear her one night where she singing in a night club and suggested to Plessa. The result was "o dromos"!!!
The best selling record of all times.

To me, I think it's just a question of which singer you happen to like better, and since they're both great, I don't see any real reason to say one is better than the other.

But I don't know as much as Duffy or Amethystos about the fine points of performing Greek songs, so maybe one of them sees a real difference.

I prefer the Music Arrangements in Mosxoliou song, but I like Marinellas voice more, at least in this song.

(Karsiliama rhythm, is much more clear to hear in the Mosxoloiu Version)

Both are perfect for me, because Zambetas is responsible for two recordings and instrumentations.

OK - this is a difficult choice, I think. Maybe they're both great in slightly different ways.

This time i will betray my love choosing Kazantzidi's version. Alexiou is good but not as Kazantzidis is.

I see that Diogenes would not have to look so hard for an "honest man" if you were around back then - you are an "honest man", Duffy.
