    In this thread here:

    http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=157157

I talked about a great song about a very famous composer and bouzouki player:

    Μπάρμπα Γιάννη - 1972
    http://www.stixoi.info/stixoi.php?in...&song_id=14978
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3yU_HJMI_4

And it made me think about how we always tend to talk about composers, lyricists, and singers but never about a particular bouzouki player unless he happens to be a composer or lyricist or singer also.

    And that's not really fair.

To see why, consider this song (Glenti 101.1 FM 405AM Xanthi time 25 December):

Συ μου χάραξες πορεία - 1971
    http://www.stixoi.info/stixoi.php?in...s&song_id=1838
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_BYMLQ7o88

If you listen carefully to the version in the youtube cut I linked to here, you'll hear that at 1:16, 1:32. 1:59, and 2:16, the bouzouki player plays just two isolated notes. (He also plays them at 0:32 and 0:48, but not as clearly, as if he was trying them out first, to see if they would work well or not.)

    Just two notes

But those two notes are pure genius, each time he plays them.

And therefore, I think that whenever we post a rebetika or neorebetika song that we think is really good, we should either mention the bouzouki player if we know him, or make sure in the post to ask Duffy if he can check his library and see who was playing bouzouki on the cut.

So that's exactly what I'm going to do right now - I'm going to ask ask Duffy.

    Duffy - in this cut

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_BYMLQ7o88

    who is playing lead bouzouki?

Who is the genius who is playing those two notes?

Yes, but rebetika bouzouki accompaniments are partly improvisational, so the bouzouki player is SOMEWHAT free to choose some of his notes without the composer saying this note or that note.

So it's possible Kaldaras didn't tell him - "play those two notes there".

But like you say, we'll wait for Mr. Dack to quack ... heh heh heh. (I make that joke because he says that Daffy Duck is his favorite duck.)

In my link above (Kaldaras), they mention a Facebook link. If you are a member of FB, you can read in this Group. Very interesting.

I'll be back later, we're having breakfast now. :-)

THERE ARE TWO BOUZOUKI PLAYERS: Apostolos Kaldaras (2nd) and Kostas Papadopoulos (1st)
Papadopoulos is one of the 2-3 greatest soloists in Greece. (The others are: Giannis Stamatiou (sporos) / Lakis Karnezis / Manolis Hiotis)

The best version of the song is from Giota Lydia. (Papadopoulos plays here too)

Thanks Duffy - it's interesting that even though he was "in his infancy", you canstill tell his playing is special somehow.
