Duffy and Amethystos (and anyone else who has an opinion):

    Is:

    "ήταν μόνο μου δική"

    OK in Greek for English:

    "she was mine alone"

If so, then it is it OK to rhyme a Greek word ending in -ή with a Greek word ending in -ής ?

For example, would this kind of "close rhyme" be acceptable here:

Κύριε εισαγγελέα, στα σκαλία τα τελευταία
    εγω είμουν της ζωής
σκοτωσα γιατί φοβόμουν, αν την πέρναν θα χανόμουν
    ήταν μόνο μου δική

I hope you answer yes - because this is exactly the correct line for the song instead of

Κύριε εισαγγελέα, στα σκαλία τα τελευταία
    εγω είμουν της ζωής
σκοτωσα γιατί φοβόμουν, αν την πέρναν θα χανόμουν
    τρέλα ήταν της στιγμής.

The protagonist in the song did NOT commit a "crime of passion" in a moment of insanity - he killed deliberately because to him, she was meant to be his and his alone, forever.

That's why the new line will work exactly right, assuming:

    1) it is OK Greek
    2) the rhyme is close enough.

    Another possibility, maybe:

    Is:

    "Δεν θα αφήσω να συμβεί"

    the right way to say

"I will not let it happen"

    If so, then how about:

Κύριε εισαγγελέα, στα σκαλία τα τελευταία
    εγω είμουν της ζωής
σκοτωσα γιατί φοβόμουν, αν την πέρναν θα χανόμουν
    Δεν θ' αφήσω να συμβεί

Aren't ζωής and συμβεί close enough?

    Panos (the composer) says that

    Δεν θ' αφήσω να συμβεί

is almost correct Greek, but not quite.

    He say it means

    I will not let happen

    not

I will not let it happen.

Can you make a small change to the line so it still ends in συμβεί, but is correct idiomatic Greek?

    Here is another possibility.

How about "Όχι αυτό δεν θα συμβεί" meaning No, this will not happen.

    It's really seven syllables because

    Όχι αυτό

    is pronounced

    Όχ ιαυ τό

    Correct ?????

So then the second chorus would be:

Κύριε εισαγγελέα, στα σκαλία τα τελευταία
    εγω είμουν της ζωής
σκοτωσα γιατί φοβόμουν, αν την πέρναν θα χανόμουν
    Όχι αυτό δεν θα συμβεί

Κύριε εισαγγελέα, στα σκαλιά τα τελευταία
    εγω είμουν της ζωής
σκοτωσα γιατί φοβόμουν, αν την πέρναν θα χανόμουν
    απ' τον πόνο της πληγής

    this sound better
Αν υπάρχει κάτι που δεν χρειάζεται την πλειοψηφία για να είναι σωστό, αυτό είναι η ανθρώπινη συνείδηση.

Thank you very much Duffy - but now we have two choices:

    Your suggestion:

Κύριε εισαγγελέα, στα σκαλιά τα τελευταία
    εγω είμουν της ζωής
σκοτωσα γιατί φοβόμουν, αν την πέρναν θα χανόμουν
    απ' τον πόνο της πληγής

    or mine:

Κύριε εισαγγελέα, στα σκαλία τα τελευταία
    εγω είμουν της ζωής
σκοτωσα γιατί φοβόμουν, αν την πέρναν θα χανόμουν
    Όχι αυτό δεν θα συμβεί

Which do you prefer? I prefer mine, but I have asked Panos to make the decision.

Duffy - here is what Panos (the composer) says:

We already used pligi on the 4 verse:

    Είναι βαθύς κι αβάσταχτος
    ο πόνος της πληγής μου
    κι εσείς καταδικάστε με
μέχρι να βγεί η ψυχή μου

Oxi auto den tha simvei is nicer for me.

A more appropriate phrase is οχι αυτό να μήν συμβεί. Means i dont want this to happen.

Greeks have a passive state of things. Things happen to greek people.

So we go with this final line from Panos:

Κύριε εισαγγελέα, στα σκαλία τα τελευταία
    εγω είμουν της ζωής
σκοτωσα γιατί φοβόμουν, αν την πέρναν θα χανόμουν
    Όχι αυτό να μήν συμβεί.

Thank you for your new verses and for helping with this change to the chorus. I am eternally in your debt, Duffy.
