L' illī yeswā ṯeglah ḏahab
For the one, whose burden resembles gold
Ajmal geṣīdah tinkatab
The most beautiful story is written
Min šāfat 3eyūnī 3eyūnah
From the moment my eyes saw his
Daggīt b' īdī 3al-ḫašab
I knocked with my hand on wood

L' illī yeswā ṯeglah ḏahab
For the one, whose burden resembles gold

Lo kān yigtelnī ba-hāk
If he had killed me therewith
Wa ye3ūd yeħayyīnī hawāk
He would promise to revive me with his love
Miyet sabab 3endī l' hawāk
Hundreds of reasons that I have for my loving him
Wal-nās tehwāh min sabab
And people already love him for but one reason

L' illī yeswā ṯeglah ḏahab
For the one, whose burden resembles gold

Lammā 3eyūnak sallamat
When your eyes greeted [mine]
Zuhūr al-ġarām biya namāt
Flowers of passion were growing inside me
Is2al ṭuyūran lamlamat
Ask the birds that were gathering
3an galby; teħkī lak 3ajab
About my heart; they'll tell you wonderous things
