    NOT FOR DECENT MEN

Not for decent men to see or read.
Not for decent men to shoulder the burden
Of the plague upon women and children.
Not for decent men to share the guilt
    Of flesh gored and torn
    And worn apart
    from its owner.
Not for decent men to own.

Not for decent men to know
    Loneliness, horror, shame
    Of nocturnal visitations
    Upon the Innocents
    Whose days, impaired with shock
    And fear, never ending,
    Blend with nightmares, darkness,
    Not for decent men.

Not for decent men to hear
    Suppressed screams
    Or the complete silence
    When Innocents disappear from
    Reality
    Wearing a skin like death
    Pretending It did not happen.
    Not for decent men.

    I really like it Frankie;
I've only got one question, is this some kind of personal manifesto of yours?
"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"

Thank you. But, no, dear Amethyste, this is no manifesto--personal or otherwise. My husband is among the decent men, and I hold him in the highest human esteem and love him completely.

Happy for both of you Frankie.

I read this yesterday Frankie dear but didn't have a moment. Amethyste I totally understand your question but now on a second read I feel (complicated lol) that this is a great testimony to the Decent Man that could help everywoman escape and look beyond and forward from those things that make "Innocents disappear"....into themselves where they would be stuck forever inside the torrid nightmares that destroyed the child that they once were.

The Decent Man should not have to bear that deeply buried burden....but he will anyway, but he will bear it on wings that can open the skies of heaven again and help his lost Innocent find herself all over again.

Frankie I hope that that gives you a good idea of what I think about your poem and yes I do 'get it' at least in my own way and thank you so much for sharing the message.
