Walking under the scorching sun
With only one goal in his mind
He charged ahead of the convoy
To cross the border before its shut down
He made it, just as the sirens blared
Lucky today but others were too scared
He watched them scatter like rabbits
Nothing to be done but time to split
He whispered to himself:
It's not over till
I put my head down
on my own pillow
and once again I will breathe
Over the rocky hills, and down the deserted valleys
He picked his route hiding from the police
He knew this was the only way to be free
Invisible like a ghost he had to be
No time to think about all the little faces
Lef behind, think about your favorite places
But oh memories creep in, a city smoldering
Under the crossfire while kids do the soldiering
He whispered:
It's not over till
I put my head down
on my own pillow
and once again I will breathe
A journey of a thousand miles almost at an end
A whole year on the road without a familiar face spent
To arrive in a strange city with elegant streets
Many fancy shops and restaurants to eat
He asked himself is this my new paradise
For a new life under a smoke free sky
For a chance to have a shot at peace
Without guns, bombs or violence
He whispered:
It's not over till
I put my head down
on my own pillow
and once again I will breathe
It's not over till
I put my head down
on my own pillow
and once again I will breathe....
