70s-80s rock song

Have heard this song twice now but it's driving me crazy, since I liked it but can't get it.

-70s/80s hard rock (probably the latter), male singer, has to be mainstream enough for a grocery store music system to play it.
-Only lyric I got from the main body was (possibly) some reference to "flying at the speed of light/night" or something like that.
-Finally, the refrain sounds like "“turning up the song” “turning up the sun”, “jumping off the sun” or something that probably isn’t the real meaning (I’ve looked those up and checked). Definitely five syllables.

Any suggestions?
