... myself, just "returned" from the "εννιαήμερο μνημόσυνο" (9-day memorial) of my "Godmother's" ... ... ...

... dya mou, you have asked before and "tzina772000" gave you few answers ... ... ...

... since you asked (and since my Godmother "passed away"), I have "been" more ... "attentive" ... to the "progression" of "this" ... "human event" ... in my own "Cypriot culture" ... ... ...


So, ...

... we "have" ... "μνημόσυνο" (memorial) on, ...

... 3 days ... 9 days ... 40 days ... 3 months ... 6 months ... 9 months ... 1 year ... then, every year ... ... ...


Today (the 9-day memorial), in the "afternoon", we "go" to the "cemetery" with the ... "κόλλυβα" -"κόλλυφα" in "Cypriot"-, (which is the "ceremonial" boiled wheat given at memorail services) ... and "πρόσφορο" (loaf of bread that is "unkneated", I think) and a candle, ... the "priest" does a "Τρισάγιο" (Sanctus) over the "grave" ... we then, each "take" a "handfull" of the "κόλλυφα" ... ... ...

... and, if one "wants", ... we "meet" at the "home" of the "μακαρίτης" (in English it is "deceased", however in "Greek" it "means" ... "the one who is in 'bliss', in 'serenity', even 'enviable'), ... to have the "traditionally ceremonial" ... "καφές της παρηγοριάς" -in Cyrpiot "καφέν της παρηορκάς"-, "coffee of solace", (the "Byzantine coffee", ofcourse), ... and, some "salted delicacies" ... "εις μνήμην του/της μακαρίτη/μακαρίτισσας", "in memory of the blissful one" ... ... ...

... do not "mean" to ... "sadden" ... you, (any of you amazing "cherubs") ... ... ... *υ*

... simply, ... "portraying" ... one of my "culture's aspects" of "Life" ... *υ* ... ... ...
