Angry Hope you like a Challenge: This is a Tough One...

....Simply because I have a HORRIBLE memory. I heard this one on the radio the other day, it was an alternative rock/ mildly indie station, and its been driving me insane. The problem was, when I woke up the next day, the tune totally escaped my memory. Here is what I can tell you (sorry I can't remember more)

    1. I personally think it is an older song (but I could be wrong) , however, I would wager that it was made within the past 10 years

    2. It was on an Alternative Rock Station (Canadian)

    3. It was a male voice singing the song

    4. It had the word "Lie" in it (it took me 2 days to remember that much!) And I remember hearing it more than once, so I think it's probably in the chorus

    5. The way he sang it was very....choppy. It didn't have an even flow to it

    6. Its not death metal or anything

    7. Its NOT 30 Seconds to Mars, I looked into that

Also, I dont know if this helps much, but the word 'lie' is used as 'to lie to someone' not 'to lie upon something'

I think if I saw the lyrics I might be able to identify it. I've been scouring the internet for quite awhile and haven't turned up anything yet.

If you happen to know what I'm talking about (it'd be a bloody miracle if you did!) I'd greatly appreciate any help (this song won't stop nagging at me, and I don't remember anything about it!) Sorry I can't be of more help, thanks to anyone who tries!

I have probably turned the dial a little too far on the "way-back machine" but your posting reminded me of an old Russ Ballard song, "Liar", that was first recorded by Argent ("Hold Your Head Up") in 1969. One year later, Three Dog Night covered the song and turned it into a hit. Subsequent covers by The Meters in 1975 and Blackfoot in 1986 were not as successful.

As long as I'm stuck in the 1970's, also try "The Mayor of Candor Lied" by Harry Chapin (1976).

(and yes I'm just stalling until I can find a better fit for your request)
Them that can, do; them that can't... memorize Artist and Title

What about "Terrible Lie" by Nine Inch Nails?

Hey god, why are you doing this to me?
Am I not living up to what Im supposed to be?
Why am I seething with this animosity?
Hey god, I think you owe me a great big apology

    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie

Hey god, I really dont know what you mean.
Seems like salvation comes only in our dreams.
I feel my hatred grow all the more extreme.
Hey god, can this world really be as sad as it seems

    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie

Dont take it away from me.
I need someone to hold on to.
Dont take it away from me.
I need someone to hold on to

Hey god, theres nothing left for me to hide.
I lost my ignorance, security and pride.
Im all alone in a world you must despise.
Hey god, I believed that promises, your promises and lies

    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie

You made me throw it all away.
    My morals left to decay.
    How many you betray.
    Youve taken everything
    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie
    Terrible lie

My head is filled with disease.
My skin is begging you please.
Im on my hands and knees
I want so much to believe.

Dont take it away from me.
I need someone to hold on to.
Dont take it away from me.
I need someone to hold on to

    I give you everything.
    My sweet everything
Hey god, I really dont know who I am.

try The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)

    Sleeping is giving in,
no matter what the time is.
    Sleeping is giving in,
    so lift those heavy eyelids.

    People say that you'll die
    faster than without water.
But we know it's just a lie,
scare your son, scare your daughter.

    People say that your dreams
are the only things that save ya.
Come on baby in our dreams,
    we can live our misbehavior.

Every time you close your eyes
    Lies, lies!
Every time you close your eyes
    Lies, lies!
Every time you close your eyes
    Lies, lies!
Every time you close your eyes
    Lies, lies!
Every time you close your eyes
Every time you close your eyes
Every time you close your eyes
Every time you close your eyes

People try and hide the night
    underneath the covers.
People try and hide the light
    underneath the covers.

Come on hide your lovers underneath the covers
    come on hide your lovers
    underneath the covers.

    Hidin' from your brothers
    underneath the covers,
    come on hide your lovers
    underneath the covers.

    People say that you'll die
    faster than without water,
but we know it's just a lie,
scare your son, scare your daughter,
Scare your son, scare your daughter.
Scare your son, scare your daughter.

Now here's the sun, it's alright!
    (Lies, lies!)
Now here's the moon, it's alright!
    (Lies, lies!)
Now here's the sun, it's alright!
    (Lies, lies!)
Now here's the moon it's alright
    (Lies, lies!)

Every time you close your eyes
    Lies, lies!
Every time you close your eyes
    Lies, lies!
Every time you close your eyes
    Lies, lies!
Every time you close your eyes
    Lies, lies!

Every time you close your eyes

Every time you close your eyes

    (Lies, lies!)

I'm afraid its not that either. Perhaps I just heard the song wrong. I've been glued to the two possible stations I could have heard it from hoping they'll play it again.

Let's see if I've got this right, you love the song but you can't remember a thing about it -- except for the single word "lie" and the context within which it was used. I'm totally baffled. How is this possible? Can you at least hum a few bars?

Generally when I hear something I like on the radio I try to focus in on a few lines of lyrics that I can recognize so that I can look it up later. With this song, I kept switching which lyrics I was going to remember, and I was listening more to the song than focusing on the lyrics, so when the time came to remember which lyrics I was going to search the song up with, I was lost because I had tried to rememeber so many different lines all at once.

I suggest you buy a pen and notebook. That combination does wonders for memories.

Well, I happened to be in my car travelling down the road at 55 mph, so forgive me for not dropping everything I was doing to write down a couple of lyrics.

It wasn't Chalk Farm, Iron Maiden, or Billy Talent, and I'm not going to lie when I say that I'm very pleased it wasn't the latter, for I listen to Billy Talent quite frequently, and would have been utterly embarrassed to admit that I had not recognized the voice :P

Thanks for posting the artist name and song title. You made me curious, and so I looked the song up and also obtained an mp3 copy. Great song. Here are the lyrics:

    Flawed Design - Stabilo

When I was a young boy
I was honest and I had more self-control
If I was tempted I would run
    Then, when I got older
I began to lie to get exactly what I wanted
    When I wanted it
    And I wanted it
    Now, I'm having trouble differentiating
    Between what I want
    And what I need
    To make me happy
So instead of thinking I just act
Before I have a chance to contemplate the
    Consequence of action

    Bridge:
    And I will turn off
    And I will shut down
Burying the voices of my conscience hitting ground
    And I will turn off
    And I will shut down
The chemicals are restless in my head

    Chorus:
    'Cuz I lie
    Not because I want to
But I seem to need to
    All the time
    Yeah, I lie
And I don't even know it
    Maybe this is
All a part of my flawed design

And ever since I figured out
That I could control other people
    I've had trouble sleeping
    With both eyes closed
    And if I asked permission
If I make sure it's ok
I promise I won't slip up this time
    You can trust me
But never take advice from someone
Who just admitted to being devious
    Who just confessed to treason
    And I would also
    never ask a question
    That I cannot ask myself
    For it might
    Dirty up your conscience

    Chorus:
    'Cuz I lie
    Not because I want to
But I seem to need to
    All the time
    Yeah, I lie
And I don't even know it
    Maybe this is
All a part of my -

And how can you say those things
    Why can't you just believe
And how can you say those things
    And keep a straight face
And how can you say those things
    Why can't we just believe
And how can you say those things
    And keep a straight face

    Bridge:
    And I will turn off
    And I will shut down
Burying the voices of my conscience hitting ground
    And I will turn off
    And I will shut down
The chemicals are restless in my head

    'Cuz I lie
    Not because I want to
But I seem to need to
    All the time
    Yeah, I lie
And I don't even know it
    Maybe this is
All a part of my -
    'Cuz I lie
And if I could control it
Maybe I could leave it all behind
    Yeah, I lie
And I don't even know it
Maybe this is all a part of my
    Flawed design
