Default Newbie looking for a very old song . . .

    Greetings all,

I've been trying for some time to indentify what I think is an old Civil War song that contains the lyrics "It was brothers fighting brothers, fathers fighting sons -- a war in which each had to lose no matter which side won." I used to hear the song on the radio often during the 60's and 70's and our family USED to have it in an old song book that is now lost. Please help . . .

    Thanx in advance,

    Pesky

    Try "Shiloh" by Darryl Worley

    Brother fighting brother
    father fighting son
by the time the sun was setting
looked like the south had won

    Brother killing brother
    Father slaying son
from the looks of this old graveyard
    hell nobody really won
Them that can, do; them that can't... memorize Artist and Title

Thanks for trying . . . and that was close . . . but it's not the one. The song I'm looking for contains the exact line "brothers fighting brothers, fathers fighting sons -- a war in which each had to lose no matter which side won" and is a much older song. Worley's song "Shiloh" might have been 'inspire by it.'
