I recently heard a beautiful Polish song at my boyfriend's parents' home. Could someone please translate? "Nie placz ewka" by Perfekt

I suppose it would help if I added the lyrics!

Nie placz ewka bo tu miejsca brak
    na twe babskie lzy
    po ulicy mjlosc hula wiatr
    wsrod rozbitych szyb
    Patrz poeci sliczny prawdy sens
    roztwonili w grach
    w pollitrowkach pustych S.O.S.
    wysylaja w swiat

    Ref.
    Zegnam was juz wiem
    nie zalatwie wszystkich pilnych spraw
    ide sam wlasnie tam
    gdzie czekaja mnje
Tam przyjaciol kilku mam od lat
dla nich zawsze soiewam dla nich gram
    jeszcze raz zegnam was
    nie spotkamy sie

    Proza zycia to przyjazni kat
    peka cienka nic
    telewizor meble maly fiat
    oto marzen szczyt
Hej prorocy moi z gniewnych lat
    obrastacie w tluszcz
juz was w swoje szpony dopadl szmal
    zdrada plynie z ust

    Ref.
    Zegnam was juz wiem
    nie zalatwie wszystkich pilnych spraw
    ide sam wlasnie tam
    gdzie czekaja mnje
Tam przyjaciol kilku mam od lat
dla nich zawsze soiewam dla nich gram

Yeah he can translate it, but I think he's tired of me always asking. We can't listen to anything without me asking, "What does that mean?" "OK what are they saying there?"

    Hi robind75,

I've tried so hard ...but my English isn't so good...

and it is my first translation into English...so be tolerant

There are some colloquial words and some metaphors so it wasn't easy

and if I made a mistake in English - prepositions, articles (I'm sure I did)

please correct me - in this way I could improve my English

    So here is the song:
Nie płacz Ewka bo tu miejsca brak // Do not cry Eva cause here don’t have a place
na twe babskie łzy //for your woman(?) tears
po ulicy Miłość hula wiatr //In the Love street the wind is blowing
wśród rozbitych szyb // through broken panes
Patrz poeci śliczny prawdy sens //Look, beautiful meaning of the truth poets
roztwonili w grach //have squanderred in games
    w półlitrówkach pustych S.O.S. //in empty bottles S.O.S
wysyłają w świat //are sending to the world

    Ref.
Żegnam was już wiem// I say good bye to you, now I know
nie załatwie wszystkich pilnych spraw //I won’t settle all my urgent affairs
ide sam właśnie tam //I go there, just there
gdzie czekają mnie //where they’re waiting for me
Tam przyjaciól kilku mam od lat// I’ve got a few friends for years
dla nich zawsze śpiewam dla nich gram //I always sing and play for them
jeszcze raz żegnam was //I say good bye to you once more
nie spotkamy się //we won’t meet (again)

Proza życia to przyjaźni kat// Prose of life is executioner of the friendship
pęka cienka nić //thin thread is breaking
telewizor meble mały fiat// a television set, futniture, small Fiat (make of a car)
oto marzeń szczyt //Here is a peak of our dreams
Hej prorocy moi z gniewnych lat// Hey my prophets from black/angry years
obrastacie w tłuszcz //you are growing on fat
już was w swoje szpony dopadł szmal// Dough(money) has you in claws
zdrada płynie z ust //a treason goes from the mouth

It is my interpretation...but you know the song is like a poem there are as many interpretations as people.

It’s one of the saddest song of this band. It was written in the eighties when were communism in Poland. Really hard times.
    Lyrics show a great longing…
because theirs (band members) idols passed away (f.ex. Joplin., Henrix)
because they’re growing up and reality is not like their dreams

When they were young the frienship was the most important thing now they realized that living failures and a chase of money can destroy it.

If you have more questions or songs ...I will help you with plesure

Wonderful! I will definitely keep you in mind. My boyfriend and his family came to the states during Solidarity so naturally I always have questions. I try to give him a break from them sometimes

Yeah, it's really hard to translate this song and to understand it cause it's full of references to polish life in those times...

But, zAgatka, you did a nice job!

This is an old topic, but may I offer something? And also ask:

zAgatka, and anyone else? .... my closest friend here in the U.S. is from Poland. He defected in 1981. His mother still lives in Poland. He loves to talk and talk and talk about his life in Poland, without getting upset. He just doesn't like it when I talk about some other countries at length. You understand.

So, I wonder if I should ask him to translate this song? He's been living with English for 27 years. And I also like to learn a little Polish

So should I print and show these lyrics to him?

Gossip-girl, your comment intrigued me, and so I'm also curious about it now.

Thanks I only have hesitation because of robind75's experiences. So if my buddy wants to offer his translation, I'll post it soon.

Robin, I hope it'll help ... if you're still reading your own topic

Since I'm Polish and would like to think that I'm good at English, I decided to give it a shot.
I added some notes about past references and present references should you get confused about something, if you don't find them useful, just ignore and read the translated lyrics.

Nie płacz Ewka, bo tu miejsca brak - Don't cry Eve (Ewka), cause there is no space here
Na twe babskie łzy - For your womanly tears
Po ulicy miłość hula wiatr - In ("on" for American, I guess) the street Love (if unclear, it's a street named "Love", by no means is it literal anyways) wind runs wild
Wśród rozbitych szyb - In the midst of broken windowpanes
Patrz poeci śliczni prawdy sens - Look, pretty poets, truth's sense
Roztrwonili w grach - Dissipated (wasted?) in games
W półlitrówkach pustych S.O.S - In the empty half-liter bottles (artistic, especially writers, enviroment tended to get drunk often during the communistic times, legendary "Himmilisbach" and his "***** stories" come to my mind but it's kind of hard to explain quickly, try googling it) S.O.S (SOS, the famous help signal)
Wysyłają w świat - Into the World they send.

Chorus: Żegnam was, już wiem - I bid you farewell, I already know
Nie załatwię wszystkich pilnych spraw - I won't settle all the urgent affairs
Idę sam, właśnie tam - I go alone, just there
Gdzie czekają mnie - Where they await me
Tam przyjaciół kilku mam, od lat - There a few friends I have, for years
Dla nich zawsze śpiewam, dla nich gram - For them I always sing, for them I play
Jeszcze raz żegnam was - Once more I bid you farewell
Nie spotkamy się - We won't meet again.

Chorus MIGHT be about emigration, I'm not really sure but it kinda states that the song's protagonist is leaving to where his friends are, which might mean that he's leaving the country or he's simply going to jail for activity against the ruling communists, it's all a subject to interpretation.

Proza życia to przyjaźni kat - Life's prose (might be more about a "story", imo.) is friendship's hangman\tormentor (the latter sounding more poetry-esque).
Pęka cienka nić - The thin thread is ripped (alternate: The thin thread breaks\splits; it might be another reference to emigration, if you treat the "thread" as a way to contact your homeland or your affection for your homeland, it breaks, splits and you're no longer the same)
Telewizor, meble, mały fiat - TV, furniture, litte fiat ("little fiat" is a reference to a car very popular in Poland during communistic years and some time after, now more of a joke object though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_126p)
Oto marzeń szczyt - This is the dreams' peak
Hej prorocy moi z gniewnych lat - Hey my prophets from the angry years
Obrastacie w tłuszcz - You overgrow with fat (they are just putting on weight so alternate would be: "You put on weight", it's just far less poetry-esque, while the original text is poetry, I could even say "You get fat" just because this verse is kinda more aggressive than the ones before, being rude in here would be a good solution, pick one version to your liking).
Już was w swoje szpony dopadł szmal - You already got caught in cash's claws
Zdrada płynie z ust - Betrayal (Treachery as an alternate word) flows from lips.
(Those three last verses may as well be about people who once were against communists giving in to the system, becoming communists' servants for easy money and living, the price they had to pay was betraying their friends who also were against the system)

    Chorus once again.

Wow what a English :P I say... I would do it more smoothly :
Don't cry Evie, 'cause there's no place left
    For your women's tears
along the Love street - the wind is raging
    through the broken windowpans

There's a very nostalgic song (like Where Have All The Flowers Gone? Gone by the wind. ). It's about a passing life, passing old fellows, old feelings and so on

Default How about a "free" translation that one can sing?

I posted this recently on lyricstranslate.com

    Don't cry Eva

Eva, don't you cry, that's not the time
    for your girly tears
Broken windows standing in the wind
    down the Lovers' street
Poets gambling precious sense of truth
    in a game of cards
    Empty whiskey bottles S.O.S.
    are taking out

    Good bye now, I know,
some affairs of mine will never be
    I will go, all alone,
    life's awaiting me
There, my long time friends will be, for them
I do always sing and play my songs
    Say farewell, once again,
    we will meet no more

Prose of life kills friendship day by day,
    bonds don't last it seems
    Television, iPhone, shiny car
    top the list of dreams
Hey, my heroes of the rebel years,
    you are growing fat
Money got you in its dirty claws
    Your lips betray
