It’s late again
And the stars come out
And the sky’s light dims
As the sun burns out

But the city lights
They’re always on
Casino open
Say signs of neon

This city life is all too much
He’s lost his job, he's lost his touch
His marriage is failing
He’s took to the bottle
He’s pressed down to hard
On his body’s throttle

He’s lost his most beloved things
His wife has gone from under his wing
And all because of his gambling
Betting his life on some cards just to win

He can’t pay the debts
His life is a wreck
He lost all his money
On the flip of a deck

But he lost much more
The girl he adores
She packed up her bags
And walked right through his door

This city life is all too much
He’s lost his job, he's lost his touch
His marriage is failing
He’s took to the bottle
He’s pressed down to hard
On his body’s throttle

She would have given him a chance
But he’ll never know what he done to her
Could you imagine explaining to the kid
How he can’t have any diner

Well she had to find a way
Her son’s the priority
And that’s why she left
Leaving behind the key

This city life is all too much
He lost his job, he lost his touch
His marriage has failed
He took to the bottle
He pressed down to hard
On his body’s throttle

This city life is all too much
He lost his job, he lost his touch
His marriage has failed
He took to the bottle
He pressed down to hard
On his body’s throttle

Learn from his mistakes
Never ever raise the stakes
