Default Unknown Favorite from the 70's

Here's a real challenge, I think I may be the only one in the world who remembers this song

If anyone is from the Baton Rouge, LA area there was a radio station in the 70's that called itself "Loose Radio" aka WFMF 102.5-FM. The station played everything, mainly progressive rock, soul and jazz. I began listening to it in the mid to late 70's. Too bad back then I was only a teen and didn't have good recording equipment, only mono cassette recorders running to a speaker output.

I always loved the song but it was hardly played so I never caught the artist or the song's name. Heard it around 1976 or maybe 1977. Some of the lyrics I remember are like:

Oh you sit inside your room each and every night
Prayin' (maybe waitin') for one of us pretty boys to come and hold you tight
I need you so much I can't let go
But love and hate are so close I just don't know

Oh that's when I long for those summer nights
You got me callin your sweet name
Sweet southern lady, now ain't the time is right
You come on like a light
I've been crying my eyes over night (?)

    Chorus:
    In my room
    In my room
    room
    Over You, Over You

You got me crying over you

    Over you

(Over You was used a lot)

I think the intro is a saxophone and keyboard solo. The voice is kind of like Jesse Colin Young who was out back then but what I remember of his music was closer to folk. This song's style was more like 70's Gino Vannelli or Kenny Loggins, sort of jazzy-pop although it's definitely not them as I own or heard everything by them.

Thanks for the help. If I ever find out the name I'm calling in sick for work and running out and buying it, that's how badly I want this song.

Although not a good match for your lyrics, your request does remind me of Roy Orbison's cover of Don McLean's song, "Cryin'".
Them that can, do; them that can't... memorize Artist and Title

You're right, the lyrics are similar.

The singer's voice was similar to Michael Martin Murphy as well, who did some jazzy music then like the long forgotten track "Nothing Is Your Own".

Still appreciate the thought and I'm not giving up, there are some very good minds here.
