Spanish/English.. Bachata Rosa

By any chance could someone translate this into English... and maybe suggest similar songs in the same vein... most Bachata songs I have been hearing seem more like Raeggatone.. Thank you Oberon

It's a song with difficult words and a deep meaning, so not very easy to translate.

I have to agree with you, Silv, it's certainly not an easy one to translate!

The lyrics aren't at all straightforward, but rather open to a interpretation, so all one can do is translate it somewhat literally and leave it to the listener to fill in the blanks.

"No se si esta desnuda O tiene un solo vestido".
I asked my wife, who is a native Spanish speaker, about this part, and she said that it was translated well, and that she thought "desnuda" meant a rose without petals, like a bare stem, and "un solo vestido" meant that is has only one petal.
She also said that she thought the rose was actually a woman. (interesting!)

As Oberon mentioned, most current "Bachatas" sound more like reggaeton, which is quite true as these modern versions add a heavier beat to make them more popular in dance clubs, etc. You can find some more traditional bachatas online, Youtube, for ex., to compare the difference in sound.

As I understand it "Bachata Rosa" is not a true bachata, strictly speaking, but more like a bolero or balada, like Guerra's other songs.
Anyway, Juan Luis Guerra has a lot of beautiful songs. "Burbujas de Amor" and "Estrellitas y Duendes" are two nice ones.

PS... you are quite right... Bachata songs are and outgrowth of the Bolero.. they are supposed to have lyrical lines, with guitar backgrounds... not what is currently passing for the genre...
