    SONI MALAJ-TE DUA TY

tek ty jeton shpirt dashuria , tek buzėt e tua gjeta jete
With you lives my spirit my love, with your lips i found life
kur me prek te them te dua, janė te mia buzėt e tua
When you touch me, you say i love you, they are mine those lips of yours
te them te dua --- I say i love you
merre qiellin, ta kam falur, me merr
take the skies/heavens i have given them to you, take me
te kam falur - is a difficult saying to explain it means like i allow

ti je bota, ti je dielli, ti je deti ti je qielli,ti je ai, te dua ty!
You are the world, you are the sun, you are the sea you are the sky, i love you
ti je ai -- you are him -- like "your the guy" i love
je gjysma ime ne ketė jete, gjithēka qe kam'
Your my other half in this life, everything I have
Nese njeri me nuk do jem, me shkruaj dhe nentoke, e jotja jam
If we are not alive anymore, write me even underground, I am yours
Nga njė oqean qe na ndan, tek unė je sot nėse njė dite qielli do te qaj
although theres the ocean that seperates us, with you I am today if one day the sky splits
dielli do te dijė te ngrohe
the sun will know and warm us

Vajze malesore! wow, you did an awesome job, bravo urime this song is beautiful in albanian , it is probably one of the most romantic songs i've heard, just the way everything is phrased. You did very well!

this is sung in the Kosovar dialect "Gheg" so i will do my best!

    Moj nane
    O mother

Mori nane e zeza nane e
    o mother, darkened mother
m'kan ra plumbat ne xhamadan e
    bullets have hit my vest
xhamadan is a traditional vest that's usually embroidered in soemway
this is supposed to be that he's greiving "i have been shot" it's very emotional but my translation seems to lack emotion in english sorry

    xhamadani
    the vest
    m'kan ran plumbat oj nanė
they have shot me o mother
    ne xhamdan e
    on my vest
    per kete jete oj nan
    for this life o mother
    sun m'kan lane
    they have left me

    te lutem nane o bre
    i beg you mother
bre - is like a slang word meaning like "man!"
if you want to be very casual you can end your sentence in bre, to a male or moj/mori to a female, but some may be offended

mem tregu e sa do te mbajsh
tell me how much longer will you withstand
oj nan zi o per mue
    o darkened mother, for me
this is saying like you have been through so much, how much more will you endure, o mother your life is darkened from these occurances

when a close family member dies, the women of the family and men in occurances "mbajne zi" which means that they greive their lost one, for years and years, this means they usually do not go out, go to family occasions and weddings, so they practically just greive.
sa do te mbajsh oj nan
    how long will o mother
    zi o per mu
    will you grieve for me
    sa te jete jeta bir
as long as life shall be o my only one
    me jetu e
    for me to live

sa te jete jeta me jetu
as long as life shall be lived
del pranvera qyqja me knu e
spring arrives, .......... (i just don't know what 'qyqja' is! and i think knu means sing)
shkon e zeza nane me i nimu e
darkened mother goes out and helps
i nimon nana, rremat ni peme
mother helps, she plants a plant
o qyqja nana o per djalin tem
    ..................... o for my son
qyqja nana per djal o te ri
......................o for my the new boy
lave nanen bir me dur n'gji
    ...............................
lave nanen o me dur ne gji
    ...............................
sa te jete jeta bir me te mbajt zi
as long as life for me shall be i will grieve for you

some parts i didn't translate because i don't know how to phrase them, so i don't want to supply you with an incorrect translation, since we now know my weak spot is translating this dialect! i shall learn it better!

P.S i believe your correct about nora's, good job on catching that!

I'm off to celebrate the independence of Kosova!

@vajzemalsore: Beautifull! Trust those Albanians, they really know how to write a love song! I already knew 'Te dua ty', but now I listen to it with new ears so to speak. Although I must say that I don't like the video.

@Balkaneuro: you sure make a lot of effort to make the meaning come through. Don't worry about lack of emotion: the song has emotion to spare. The video tells the story well, I knew what the song was about, but now it really comes to life. And what are those Ghegs waiting for to join this forum?

Btw, shouldn't we apply for a seperate Albanian subforum?
  4. Balkaneuro said:

a subforum , like a seperate one for just albanian? i was thinking about that before, since theres even a slavic forum. I thought our albanian forum wasn't large enough before but now it has grown so much... that's a great idea. would you like to apply for it?

@Balkaneuro: sure I would. What do I have to do?

Still been thinking about 'Moj nane'. Darkened mother, could that mean the mother is a widow? Mother in black? Maybe it's part of a bigger story: widow looses her only son? Just speculating. Thought I found 'bir'='son' somewhere, but I'm not sure about that either.

@Demetra: I would be very grateful if you could give me an ISBN number of an English (or French) language Albanian grammar. I'm not sure an Albanian language Albanian grammar would do me much good.

cortom,i really do not know what "ISBN number " means, but i understand what you are looking for.I will search in my university,i know for sure that there is albanian grammar in russian,i think there is the same in english.Next monday i will be there,i promise i will do my best
  8. Balkaneuro said:

Demetra that means a lot, originally i was only using this forum to get translations from other languages, and i had not had an account. However, i then found all these people asking for albanian lyrics and translations that had not been translated that had been requested for months and months, i myself did not grow up in Albania and doubted my language skills but i felt that maybe, i could try and help those who wanted translations, just as others helped me with my requests and I'm glad i signed up, and plus 2 weeks in i found out i cudn't delete this account! .. yeah.

If i knew how to make a request i would tell you but i personally don't. maybe you send an email to the forum or? i really have no idea.
maybe someone in another subforum knows... there must be like a q&a somewhere?

As you have seen my english is not so good I can talk four different languages, but i hardly write them..I think we can write mail to administrator of that forum... something like that.
And i also think skype, msn are good for us to comunicate when we can

Demetra- your english is very good actually. What other languages do you speak?...And if you're wanting to learn more albanian, I found a CD and book on amazon.com called colliquial albanian. It is very helpful, even though i haven't been too god with studying more (life gets busy). But the CD is great to listen to when your driving..you can listen to people speak albanian and hear the pronunciation.

Balkaneuro- Thank you very much. I love that song and Soni has a beautiful voice... urime pavaresine e Kosoves....where did you celebrate? what a great day for Albanians everywhere. History in the making! =)

@Demetra: wow demetra you speak so many languages. i also speak a lot of turkish and i learned that the key writing and reading is knowing the alphabet. if you can learn the alphabet it makes pronouncing and phrasing really easy.

    Default Elvana Gjata - Mames

@Demetra: an ISBN number (International Standard Book Number) is what is says: an identifier that allows to order a book internationaly. It's supposed to be easily found on the back of the cover of each book that conforms to the standard. And what song is this in your last post? Artist? Title? I'm alway curious.

@Demetra & Balkaneuro & Vajzemalsore: not that I want to be nosy, but where do you live? As you may have read, I live in Belgium.

I wrote a mail to the administrators of the forum to ask for a seperate Albanian subforum. We'll see...

I have another translation request too. I'm afraid it could very well be another Gheg-job, but then, I'm willing to buy half a translation. Am I correct that 'Mames' is a kind of reply to the 'Babes' album of Tingulli 3nt? And what does 'Mames' really stand for?

Thank you, Korcare. It slowly starts to take on meaning. I already had a hunch that the song told about her own succes as a singer ('not the first to be number one'), and the difficulties she experiences with that. I think your translation confirms that. I guess 'mames' means 'girls' or 'women'. Maybe she hints at the differences between men and women in the music business? I'm just speculating.

I don't know if you have seen the video (almost impossible NOT to see it). In it, Elvana drives a car with only girls in it. The licence-plate on it read 'MAMES'. She meets another car, parked along the roadside. In it are two guys (no girls), I guess Geti and Xhig of T3nt. Their licence plate reads 'BABES'. The guys look very bored, while the girls seem to have fun. Then the girls beckon the guys, and they drive off to a dancing or something like that.

I guess all that must mean something, but I am not sure what. I like the video very much: it is funny and it may just be a little bit serious at the same time. Of course, I like the singing even better!!
