Ó Malhão, Malhão
Ó Malhão, Malhão
Oh Malhao, malhao
Que vida é a tua?
"what life is yours?"
Comer e beber, ai tirim-tim-tim
"To eat, and drink, ai tirim-tim-tim"
Passear na rua!
"To stroll on the streets"
Ó Malhão, Malhão
Quem te deu as meias?
"Who gave you socks?"
Foi o caixeirinho, ai tirim-tim-tim
"A caixeirinho did, ai tirim-tim-tim"
Tinha pernas feias!
"He had ugly legs"
Ó Malhão, Malhão
Oh malhao
Quem te deu as botas?
"Who gave you boots?"
Foi o caixeirinho, ai tirim-tim-tim
"A caixeirinho did, ai tirim-tim-tim"
Tinha as pernas tortas!
"He had bent legs"
I'm not sure but caixeiro=salesman/trademan. Malhao is the portuguese dance shown in the picture. Note that after "?'s" the phrases are answered by a living Malhao, as if it was a real person. And so, socks and boots are related to the traditional vestments used to dance malhao. In the case, of the "caixeiro with ugly legs" is understood that the socks were used to cover his ugly legs. ANd about bent legs, the boots are well used to correct such problem usually for children. Malhao is a beautiful dance, I saw it once.
