Paula Toller - Você me ganhou de presente
You won me as a gift
Você me ganhou de presente
You won me as a gift
Com laço e etiqueta de garantia
With ribbon and guarantee label
Foi num dia de alegria
It was in a day of joy
Você fez bem o gesto que eu queria
You made exactly the gesture that I wanted
Mas não deu mole
But you gave me no chance
Não deu mole
You gave me no chance
Não deu mole
You gave me no chance
Você não deu mole
You gave me no chance
Nunca esteve numa de me alcançar
You never were willing to reach me
Nem estava no 'mood' de casar
neither were in the mood to marry
I was always at your disposal, that this be my consolation
Mas você não
But you...
Você não deu mole
you gave me no chance
Você me ganhou de presente
You won me as a gift
No laço e na promessa de guarita
without truces and by the promise of a shelter
Você me sorriu na galeria
You smiled at me in the gallery
E tinha bem o gosto que eu queria,
And you had exactly the taste I was looking for
Mas não deu mole
Não deu mole
Não deu mole, meu bem
Você não deu mole
Nunca teve medo de me ver partir
You never were affraid of seeing me leave
Nem vai perder seu tempo pra me desmentir
Neither will lose your time to deny me
Nem me criticar
and to criticize me
Eu que me console
That I console myself all alone
Porque você não
Because you give me no chance
Você não dá mole
You give me no chance
Se eu chorar, você até se comove
If I cry, you may even feel moved
Mas assim já é demais
But this way is too heavy
Nem eu me agüento
Not even I will stand it
Porque eu não dou mole
Because I give you no chance
Eu não dou mole
I give you no chance
Não dou mole, meu bem
I give you no chance, my love
Também não dou mole...
I give you no chance too

Meu Amor Se Mudou Pra Lua
My love moved to the moon
Cai a tarde sobre os ombros
The afternoon falls on the shoulders...
Da montanha onde me largo
of the mountain where I throw myself
O dia não foi!
The day did not happen
A noite o que será?
At night, what will it be?
Meus cabelos pela grama
My hair, among the grass
E eu sem nem querer saber
And I, not even interested to know...
Por onde começo
Where I have to start by...
E onde vou parar?...
And where I will end up
Na imensidão da manhã
In the immensity of the morning ...
Meu Amor Se Mudou Pra Lua
My love moved to the moon
Eu quis te ter como sou
I wanted to have you the way I am...
Mas nem por isso ser sua...(2x)
But this does not mean I wanted to be of yours
Vou adiante como posso
I go ahead as much as I can
Liberdade é do que gosto
Freedom is what I like
O dia nasceu
The day dawned,...
Azul à sua forma
Blue in its total plenitude
Já não quero mais ser posse
I do not want to be possession of anyone ...
Fosse simples como fosse
no matter how simple this could be
Um dia partir
And one day to leave
Sem ganchos nem correntes...
with no hooks or chains.
Façamos um brinde
Let's toast
Façamos um brinde
Let's toast
À noite que já vai chegar
For the night, that is about to come
Façamos um brinde
Let's toast
Façamos um brinde
Let's toast
Ao vento que veio dançar...
For the wind, that came to dance
Na imensidão da manhã
In the immensity of the morning
Meu Amor Se Mudou Pra Lua
My love moved to the moon
Eu quis te ter como sou
I wanted to have you the way I am
Mas nem por isso ser sua...(4x)
But this does not mean I wanted to be of yours

Casa Portuguesa
link mp3: Musica Lisboeta - Uma Casa Portuguesa
letras:
Numa casa portuguesa fica bem,
pão e vinho sobre a mesa.
e se à porta humildemente bate alguém,
senta-se à mesa co'a gente.
Fica bem esta franqueza, fica bem,
que o povo nunca desmente.
A alegria da pobreza
está nesta grande riqueza
de dar, e ficar contente.
Quatro paredes caiadas,
um cheirinho à alecrim,
um cacho de uvas doiradas,
duas rosas num jardim,
um São José de azulejo,
mais o sol da primavera...
uma promessa de beijos...
dois braços à minha espera...
É uma casa portuguesa, com certeza!
É, com certeza, uma casa portuguesa!
No conforto pobrezinho do meu lar,
há fartura de carinho.
e a cortina da janela é o luar,
mais o sol que bate nela...
Basta pouco, poucochinho p'ra alegrar
uma existência singela...
É só amor, pão e vinho
e um caldo verde, verdinho
a fumegar na tigela.
Quatro paredes caiadas,
um cheirinho á alecrim,
um cacho de uvas doiradas,
duas rosas num jardim,
São José de azulejo

pão e vinho sobre a mesa.
to have bread and wine on the table.

I love this Amalia's song, I think it should be the most famous fado.
Here Sit at the table means "to sit at the table to have a meal", caldo verde is the portuguse name for "cabbage soup", that is green, in fact. Fumegar mean to "emit smoke", I felt no confortabe to say that some food is smooking

letras:
Ali no coração do Bairro Alto
Alguém fez de madeira, um coração e então;
A voz duma saudade a soluçar, ao luar;
O fado é sempre o mesmo, é sempre o fado
Que pôe as almas tristes a sonhar
Meu Bairro Alto
Naquela rua estreita sem asfalto
In that narrow street without asphalt
I do not know exactly how many years ago
Ali no coração do Bairro Alto
There, in the heart of Bairro Alto
Alguém fez de madeira, um coração e então;
Someone made a heart of wood and since then
O pobre coração em sobressalto
That poor heart, all frightened
just lives crying, jumping from hand to hand
Meu Bairro Alto das mais nobres tradições
Oh, my Bairro Alto of the noblest traditions
Das fadistas mais bizarras
of the most bizarre fadistas
Dos boémios do passado
of the bohemian from the past
Meu Bairro Alto que entristece os corações
Oh, my Bairro Alto, which saddens hearts
Quando choram as guitarras
when the guitars cry
Na voz dolente do fado
in the painful voice of fado
O fado que é cantado e que é falado
The fado, which is sung and spoken
Que tem uma guitarra p’ra tocar
which has one guitar to play
which has into a voice and into a so wonded lament
Na voz desta guitarra a soluçar ao luar;
into the voice of this guitar, that cries under the moonlight
O fado é sempre o mesmo, é sempre o fado
The fado is always the same, it is always the fado
Que pôe as almas tristes a sonhar
which brings sad souls to dream
________________
from hand to hand here means "ephemeral/flirting" as if she could say "it keeps trying to love one and another" and the tears probably are because of this. The dictionary says that "fadista" in feminin means also "prostitute' and I can't decide what's the case here. Usually fadista is a man/woman that sings fado. Soluçcar= "sob" or "cry intensely to hiccups"
Já la vão is a commom complement used with time "Já lá vão cinco anos que não a vejo" "they are 5 year that I've not seen her".

_____________________________________________
These lyrics have some parts that I need to clarify. Where you find * she's talking to "the departure" as if the parting was a living being. And so she says:
Oh departure, only you can share us apart
"Us" here mean "My darling and I"
Diferently from **, "love" elsewhere in the text is referred to her lover. At ** love is about a feeling.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!!. I tell you that this time I though "Sh*t, this time nik_m tricked hardly on me, how will I get this lyrics?", but I found this song in portuguese lyrics. You must know that in Cabo Verde the crioule portuguese is spoken, and at first it looks a little different. I was affaid I couldn't do this. Here is a homepage where some of her lyrics is translated to portuguese. I say it because the crioule from Cabo Verde is said as Caboverdian Language. Enjoy it, she's a diva and who loves portuguese surely knows her. And I love my language, and love those that love it. And you nick, you are true lusophile. Good show for you in Bulgaria
Meu amor, vou-me embora
Oh. partida! Só tu nos podias separar
Levanta-te, meu amor, para eu te abraçar
Levamba-te, para eu te beijar
Para acariciar essa bela face
A partida te acompanha,
Oh, partida, leva o meu amor

letras:
Deste-me um nome de rua
Duma rua de Lisboa.
Muito mais nome de rua,
Do que nome de pessoa.
Um desse nomes de rua
Que são nomes de canoa.
Nome de rua quieta,
Onde à noite ninguém passa,
Onde o ciúme é uma seta,
Onde o amor é uma taça.
Nome de rua secreta,
Onde à noite ninguém passa,
Onde a sombra do poeta,
De repente, nos abraça!
Com um pouco de amargura,
Com muito da Madragoa.
Com a ruga de quem procura,
E o riso de quem perdoa.
Deste-me um nome de rua,
Duma rua de Lisboa!

Nome de Rua
Name of Street
Deste-me um nome de rua
You gave a name of street to me
Duma rua de Lisboa.
The name of a street of Lisbon.
Muito mais nome de rua,
It was much more name for a street,
Do que nome de pessoa.
than a name for a person
Um desse nomes de rua
One of those street names
Que são nomes de canoa.
which are also name of a canoe.
Nome de rua quieta,
Name of a quiet street,
Onde à noite ninguém passa,
Where no one passes by at night,
Onde o ciúme é uma seta,
Where jealousy is an indicator
Onde o amor é uma taça.
Where love is a goblet.
Nome de rua secreta,
Name of a secret street
Onde à noite ninguém passa,
Where no one passes by at night,
Onde a sombra do poeta,
Where, the shadow of the poet
De repente, nos abraça!
suddenly, embraces us
Com um pouco de amargura,
With a bit of bitterness
Com muito da Madragoa.
With much of Madragoa.
Com a ruga de quem procura,
With wrinkles of someone, who seeks for
E o riso de quem perdoa.
And with the laughter of someone who forgives.
Deste-me um nome de rua,
You gave a street name to me
Duma rua de Lisboa!
The name of a street of Lisbon.

Hey nick, here I offer my understanding of this lyrics as native. Some thoughts I never tasted in ENglish. Explanations later
Te esperei na lua crescer
I waited your image to magnify in the moonlight.
Ví cadeira boa sentei
I saw a confortable chair and sat
Espirrei na tua gripei
I tasted your love, and fell in love with it or I crossed your way and got stuck on you
Por ficar ao léo resfriei
I stayed at the mist and catched a cold
Você me agradou me acertou
I liked you, you hit my heart/me
Me miseravou, me aqueceu
Devasted my heart, made me hot
Me rasgou a roupa e valeu
You ripped my clothes off and I liked it
E jurou conversas de deus
And you swore me words of God

Para a casa o sobreviver

Encontrei na rua a questão
I found the question when outdoors
Cem por cento a falta de chão
I felt totally in abandon
Vou rezar prá nunca perder
I will pray for never losing
Essa estrutura que é você
this structure you are
________________________________
Espirrei na tua gripei lit: "I sneezed at your ??? and got a cold"... I never heard that . Anyway Na minha, na tua, na dele/dela is usual coloquial constuction when the possessed object is supressed. All these complements sound good: "life, wave, dance, way, etc ". For example Fiquei na tua "I got stuck on you", that is, it means "You catched my attention/love/afection, ect". I would complete this phrase as "Fiquei na tua onda" or "Parei na tua esquina", or "Tô ligado na tua".
I stayed at the mist and catched a cold.... this phrase is literal. But ao léu means outdoors, at the mist or in a place without shelter of the light, mist or rain. Figuratively it means "without aim, protection". So Bebel would say "I stayed unprotected and fall in love with you" as if "the cold" here is love.
Valeu is the 3rd person of a past form of the verb "valer" but this is coloquially used to mean that something that happend "was good/pleasing/worthy to the speaker, without no reason to regret or complain about" or even to mean "thank you"
Conversas de Deus here I have no idea of what this mean
miseravar I did not found it in my dictionary but I think that must be "to make s.o./smth miserable" I choose I would use in portuguese "arrasou meu coração" or "me reduziu a pó". I see it as an devasting feeling or passion. The closest I recall is "knocked me down".
Cem por cento "100%" here mean "totally, absolutely". "Falta de chao"="absense of floor" and I think that anyone gets it easily. I used it in negative sense but it's possible to mean as "on cloud nine" but it is indecidable.
Batalhar = fight a battle but this is highly used in coloquial language and "batalha" mean "work"
Estou na batalha
I am working
Questions, feel free please.

Carlos do Carmo - Balada Para Uma Velhinha
link mp3: Carlos do Carmo - Balada Para Uma Velhinha.mp3
letras:
bandeiras verdadeiras.
Amargou a pobreza até ao fundo.
Dos ossos fez as mesas e as cadeiras,
as maneiras
malmequeres e as andorinhas
provam que a minha mãe nunca morreu.
