oh by the way.. it's Die Ferne, not "Verne"

    Monoton klingt des Glöckleins Geläute
Und der Staub zieht die Straßen entlang.
Und im Felde klingt traurig ins Weite
    Meines Fuhrmanns verträumter Gesang.

So viel Sehnsucht ist in seinem Liede,
So viel Schmerz in vertrautem Gesang,
Dass mein Herz, das schon trübe und müde,
Leise mitschwingt, vertraut mit dem Klang.

Und ich muss ferner Nächte gedenken
In der Heimat, im Feld und im Wald.
Und die Augen vor Tränen sich senken
Während leise das Lied dann verhallt.

    होता है जो होना है ... वक़्त ही शायद खुदा है ...
    कौन कहता है आदमी अपनी किस्मत खुद लिखता है?

Thanks! That's the link. A comment by Chrisina is where I got 'verne'. You're a life saver since I don't know German (or Dutch) and that makes life interesting. I have an unsolved question regarding a Dutch lyric. Can you help? regards, fred

Normally I don't speak Dutch, but posting your question might still be good, since there are people around who know the language and could probably help you

edit.. depending on the question it might a good idea, to post it either in the "German Translations" part of the forum or some other part,

ok, German then.. that's no problem

"Meines Fuhrmanns verträumter Gesang" would be something like "my carter's dreamy singing"

Steena: I'm feeling like a real pest here, but we're getting close. Please explain 'carter'. That's what my source came up with but would that be like a (truck) driver? Or what? That would make sense to me if the next line translates into ' So much longing is in his song. My source came up with '...its song'. regards, fred

no, a carter is more of person who drives a carriage with horses for example - I am not sure, maybe the word can also be used for truck drivers, but a Fuhrmann is no truck driver

Fuhrmann is an old German word, no young person today would use the word anymore

and... you are no pest don't worry, I love to help you
