    Smile need help to identify

    Hi everyone,

I can't identify a song that i've been hearing forever, probably from the 70's or 80's. A phrase in the song is " it's only make believe, uh uh ",the last pair repeated 5 times. It's not by conway twitty. Would really appreciate any help.

Many artists have remade this song. Notable cover versions include:

    * Billy Fury had a hit with his version in the United Kingdom in 1964. It reached No. 10 in the UK and No. 1 in Singapore.
    * Also in 1964, The Hollies released a version for their album Stay With The Hollies
    * Glen Campbell's 1970 remake became a top ten hit in both the United States and United Kingdom
    * Robert Gordon released his version on his 1979 album Rock Billy Boogie
    * Ronnie McDowell had success on Billboard's country chart in 1988 with his version; Twitty has a cameo.
    * Elvis Presley performed the song in the prime of his career
    * Brian May performed this song a couple of times in his 1998 tour. He even released the song on a mini-album. It is one of his favorite songs.
    * Johnny Farago, a singer from Quebec, performed the song with Chatelaine
    * Robin Cook, Kelly Hogan, John Wesly Harding, Floyd Cramer, The Four Aces and The Misfits are among the artists who covered the song.
    * Sam Moore covered this song in 2006 on his CD Overnight Sensational with help from Mariah Carey and Vince Gill
It's during times like these that I remember my Father's
last words, which were: "Don't son, that gun is loaded."

Wow!.That was a lot of info. Thanks. Unfortunately none of them match the song that I wanted. Perhaps,it's because it may be under a different title. The lines are a refrain. It's sounds America-ish.

    Goodman,

Was "Child" the group you were looking for?
Their song was a cover of Conway Twitty's song, "It's Only Make Believe".

The only song that I found that matched the lyrics in your original posting was:
"Make Believe" by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts (1981).

    I said uh-huh uh-huh uh
It's only make believe to you, yeah
    It's only make believe

Well, you could take a chance and buy Child's recording of the song (~$10).

Longshot......"Only Make Believe" by Robert Gordon?
He's been around forever - a kind of rockabilly type type - that song got a lot of play in the mid 80's.
