    Default Fikret Kızılok - Vurulmuşum

    lyrics: ahmed arif
    music: fikret kızılok
    YouTube

    Vurulmuşum
    i've been shot

    Vurulmuşum, dağların kuytuluk bir boğazında
    Vakitlerden bir sabah namazında
    Vurulmuşum, yatarım kanlı, upuzun

i've been shot in a secluded strait of mountains
it was about the morning prayer time
i've been shot, i lie in blood, at full length

    (refrain)

    Kirvem hallarımı böyle yaz
    Rivayet sanılır belki
    Gül memeler değil bu
    Domdom kurşunu
    Paramparça ağzımdaki

my kirve, write my story as such (*)
or it might be taken as rumor
    it's not breasts of rose
    it's a domdom bullet (**)
all in pieces that's in my mouth (or, in my mouth that's all in pieces)

    Vurulmuşum, dağların kuytuluk bir boğazında
    Vurulmuşum, düşüm gecelerden de kara
    Canımı alırlar ecelsiz, sığdıramam kitaplara
    Vurulmuşum, düşüm gecelerden de kara

i've been shot in a secluded strait of mountains
i've been shot, my dream is even darker than the nights
they take my life before my appointed time, i can't squeeze it to fit into books
i've been shot, my dream is even darker than the nights

    ---
(*) kirve: someone who sees all the expenses of the circumcision feast of a boy, holds the boy's hands and arms while he was being circumcised by sitting him on his laps and acts like a godfather to him throughout his life.

hallarımı: local way of saying hallerimi, meaning, my cases, my situations, that which happened to me, that which befell upon me, etc.

    (**) see note here

no, i didn't (in fact, i can't watch tv much).

now that you've mentioned it, it's suddenly struck me that "hs" in a comment on the video page, which goes like "i heard it in hs and really liked it," was "hatırla sevgili!" silly me! i was wondering what the heck this hs would be.

hey, wait. i've just opened the video page again and ta da! there is a new comment and it explicitly names the tv series, which i've never watched any episodes.

the full version of the poem is too long for me to translate.

i found a translation of the full poem here. i insert here the part in the song, modifying it so as to match the lyrics:

In a solitary corner of the mountains
At the hour of morning prayer
    I lie
    stretched
    Long, bloody

Kinsman, write my story as it is
Or they might think it a fable
    These are not rosy nipples
    But a dumdum bullet
    Shattered in my mouth

I have been shot (In a solitary corner of the mountains)
(I have been shot) My dreams are darker than night
My life gone before its time
I cannot put it into words
(I have been shot) My dreams are darker than night
