Solved: "don't mess around boy"

I was in a club last week and a smooth and catchy song, with a funky baseline came on. It had a female vocalist and the chorus sounded something like

"don't mess around boy, don't mess around no..."

This was repeated a couple of times, i think before going back into the verse, section, which may have had lyrics, or may have been instrumental – I don't remember. The song was very danceable too! Anyone know what it is? I've heard it before elsewhere, but I'm not sure if it's recent, or from the 70s or 80s.
