He made his debut into the professional life in 1902 at a colorweaving in Metzingen, where Hugo Boss got first experiences of the clothing industry.
1903 he was draft into the military service at the age of 18. After his dimissal in 1905 he found employment at a weaving in Kontanz.

I will ask again for help. I have to translate one essay about Hugo Boss. If you can translate this part:

Im Zuge der deutschen Mobilmachung zur Aufrüstung des Zweiten Weltkrieges wurde das kleine Unternehmen weitgehend durch kriegswichtige Aufträge der Wehrmacht bestimmt. Wie bei weiteren 75.000 Schneidermeistern und 15.000 Unternehmen in Deutschland wurde auch die Firmenpolitik der Schneiderei Hugo Boss weitgehend durch das NS-Regime bestimmt.

    thanks in advance!!

In the course of German mobilisation of armament during World War 2 the small company was mostly defined by orders of the Wehrmacht (the German military) important for the war. Like another 75.000 tailor masters and another 15.000 companies in Germany the firm politics of the tailor shop Hugo Boss were mostly defined by the national socialistic regime.

G8 stands for a change in the German school system. Usually those students heading for Abitur certification had to go to school for 13 years, now this has been shortned to 12 years - the main intention is to get them into word and additonal studies earlier, because if compare the old German system with those of other countries you'll realize that their children go to school much shorter.

    2. Whats “naja”? i did not find that word in the dictionary (yess im so obssessed with the german language, i bought a dictionary, a lame one xD)
It could be tranlated as "well".

    3. whats “Doof” (idem mi dictionary has not this word) and whats “das ist echt doof!” ¿?¿?¿?¡?
That is "That's really stupid", stupid being doof.

    4. “Wo wohnst du?? =“where do you live??” Or not
    That's right

    5. “Lg” is something like “ ……. Grüße” (i dont remember the other word) but what means exactly?
It stands for "Liebe Grüße", meaning "affectionate greetings".

    6. “Bock auf” is the same as “Willst du” ¿?
Yes, if you say "Hast du Bock auf ..." the meaning is the same as "Willst du ..."

    7. about the colors, how do you say „pink“? It says “Rosa” or just “pink”?
Pink is a known color in the German language you can just use it as you are used to in English. I believe that "rosa" is a bit lighter than pink.

    8. “Schnuffel“ ¿? “mein süßer Schnuffel“ = “my sweet ....... “
Haha ... That's kind of a pet name for something very cute

    9. whats “arschgeil”, i know what means each one of the two words, but when they’re together i dont get it xD
    Something like "absolutely awsome"

    10. about the pronunciation i got everything (i guess..lol), but how to get ö ü ä ß in my computer, theres a code or something ¿? For example in spanish i press “alt + 130” and i get “é” or “alt + 160” and i get “á”, but when i have to use these 4 *****es (ö ü ä ß) i have to copy and paste xDD, and i dont like to use “ue” “oe” “ae”
I don't know if this is international, but the ASCII codes should work. Unfortunately I do not know them.

Yeah hi.. just to complete some answers from Steena :-D

    7. "Pink" is a really bright colour and really girly-like. lol "rosa" on the other side is much lighter than "pink".

    9. You could take "arsch" in front of another word, simply as a way to increase the meaning. But "arschgeil" is a bad slang.. if you're learning german you should say it in some other form. xD

    That's it.

13 years in the school, omg that sucks!!!
“Arsch” i think is the same as “****ing” i mean if you put this word in front of another word = ”a way to increase the meaning” =)
See guys!!!...i’m smart xDDD, i got everything (ich bin soooooooo eingebildet...)
Thanx again, i will back here when i get another questions (maybe in a couple hours xD)

    Hey guys! =)

I'm new around here and I decided to register because I think what you're doing here in terms of teaching German is awesome!

I was wondering if you could help me with one thing: how do you say "I think about you all the time?"
Is it sth like "ich denke an dich..."?

    Thanks!

    Hey!

"I think about you all the time?" means in german 'Ich denke die ganze Zeit an dich'.

I got confussed about some translations, i found differences...i mean i compared some lyrics translated here in the forum with others
And i like perfection xDD sorry

    1. weil unser Traum, in Trümmern liegt.
    a) Since our DREAMS ARE shattered
    b) Because our DREAM IS lying in shards

the problem in here is...its plural or not¿? ( dreams or dream ¿?)

    2. Sie kommen näher...sind hinter uns her
    a) They come nearer...ARE AFTER US
    b) They're getting closer....ARE OUT TO GET US

the first sentence its ok, they’re synom, but the second¿?¿?

    3. Lass mich jetzt los
    a) Leave me now
    b) Let me go now

    4. Wir schaffens nicht beide
    a) We WON’T make it both
    b) We CAN’T both make it

    “won’t” = future n “can’t” = present xDD ¿?¿?¿?

    5. Mit jedem Hauch von Dir - erlöst Du mich
    a) With every breath from you, you SAVE ME
    b) With every breath of you, you SET ME FREE

    6. Schau - mir nicht mehr – hinterher
    a) Don’t watch after me anymore
    b) Don't look behind

    7. Stich ins Glück
    a) PRICK into happiness
    b) STAB into happiness

cos to me its kinda different...”stab” = to thrust a knife into something
and “prink”= to puncture something with some sharp stuff (like a needle)

a time ago I translated some songs from english iinto spanish =) i mean i took them from another website, but i was not sure (i thought they were correct), but i decided to search them here jus to be sure and compare them, but i fouund a lot of diferrences, so i’m kinda lost so...
    Before keep comparing my translations
please tell me what is happening in here!!!! xD
I dont know german, but i’m thinking about those translations are wrong xD

    1. weil unser Traum, in Trümmern liegt.
    a) Since our DREAMS ARE shattered
    b) Because our DREAM IS lying in shards

Person a translated it in a more lyrical way, b took the literal way - so if you are looking close on the Traum part, b is the "right" one

    2. Sie kommen näher...sind hinter uns her
    a) They come nearer...ARE AFTER US
    b) They're getting closer....ARE OUT TO GET US

I'd vote for b, I don't think that a is absolutely correct, maybe "they are behind us" would be second possibility to translate this

    3. Lass mich jetzt los
    a) Leave me now
    b) Let me go now

Both are possible, aren't they? b being the one closer to the literal meaning

    4. Wir schaffens nicht beide
    a) We WON’T make it both
    b) We CAN’T both make it

That's one of the cases we discussed here earlier, there are some verbs indicating the future but standing in the present tense. "etwas schaffen" is one of them. If you take a very very close look, the translation of a would be "Wir werden es nicht beide schaffen", that's right, but I think both, a and b, are ok in this case.

    5. Mit jedem Hauch von Dir - erlöst Du mich
    a) With every breath from you, you SAVE ME
    b) With every breath of you, you SET ME FREE

    erlösen = save, redeem

    6. Schau - mir nicht mehr – hinterher
    a) Don’t watch after me anymore
    b) Don't look behind

b is very wrong though "watch" is maybe not the best word either, "don't look after"!

    7. Stich ins Glück
    a) PRICK into happiness
    b) STAB into happiness

cos to me its kinda different...”stab” = to thrust a knife into something
and “prink”= to puncture something with some sharp stuff (like a needle)

Oh, I believe they mean the needle thing and both translators (I believe I was one of them) were not sure about the use of stab/prick

I believe that in many cases there is no "wrong" or "right" - some take it literal and try to stay very close to the original lyrics, others try to make it sound good, not looking to close on a singular or plural form
