Depends on the style and decade you're interested in. Folk songs, popular songs of 70s and rap-style of today are absolutely different

If you meant "most popular songs of all times", some of these may meet your demands:
Юрий Никулин ("А нам все равно") (he's actually not a singer, the song was sang in one extremely popular soviet comedy, I doubt there's a person who does NOT know this song!)
folk songs: "Ой, мороз, мороз..", "Шумел камыш...", "Песня коробейника"
Александра Пахмутова ("Надежда", "Главное, ребята, сердцем не стареть", "Беловежская пуща") - she's a composer and writer, sometimes she sings her own songs, but most of the times these songs are sung be various artist.

If you say what style or time you're interested in - I may try to remember something in particular.
The songs listed above actually are not my favourites and I do not want to say that these are "the best of the best", so if someone dislikes them - I'm not going to argue. These are the ones I remembered and which are included in radio playlists most often.

I can offer just a few contemporary singers/groups that I've heard:

(Yulia Savicheva): Euro/Rus-pop
(Propaganda): Euro/Rus-pop, Dance, Teen-pop
Reflex (usually written in Roman letters, sometimes Рефлекс): Euro/Rus-pop, Dance, Other ... to me they generally sound bubble-gummish, but they also have some "chill-out" and other stuff that I like, for instance:
(I will always wait for you)
(find the "mp3" play button on the right of the song title)
    ... also "Acka Raga"

And some Ukrainian singers/groups who usually (or often or sometimes) sing in Russian:

(Svetlana Loboda): Rus-pop, maybe a little like Тату
(Via Gra): Euro/Rus/Dance-pop ... I seriously like these songs:
    Ne Nado
(Ani Lorak): she's maybe more ... mature? stylish? old-fashioned? But she also sings in Ukrainian quite often.
(Gajtana, Gaitana): Rock-pop, "new" R&B ...I think she sings mostly in Ukrainian
(Sofiya Rotaru): Labeled as "Rus-pop" but definitely more traditonal ... born in 1947 ... also sings in 5 or 6 different languages. Personally, I love this lady's music:
    Белая Зима (with lyrics)

You might also want to browse this website for other ideas ... it's very searchable and it's got musicians from about a hundred different countries, and there are usually 30-second song samples available:

http://mclub.te.net.ua/ (no ads, no pop-ups, just a very good download site)

WhiteRacoon and others can probably help more than me. But eventually, if my friend from Siberia ever comes back from a loooong summer vacation, maybe she can offer something on techno/dance/contemporary. If I get anything I'll post it.

    Meanwhile:

Folk? ...maybe something like "Kalinka"? First a little warm-up, lovely ladies from Hungary on violin:

    And with Russian vocals:

    Other folk:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp57X...eature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoaXo...eature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsUrr...eature=related

Techno: maybe like one of these?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pc6B...eature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeDXhdRwX4k

Are any of these examples close to your taste?

Folk songs... there are some artists who perform in folk style, like the group "Золотое Кольцо" and their leader Надежда Кадышева.

A group Дюна - it's not a folk band, but the lyrics are always very connected to people (mostly to workers and middle-class), they are like a band from the local neighbourhood, sometimes the songs are very funny: "Коммунальная квартира", "Страна Лимония", "Если б было море пива.."

    Some more pop/contemporary:
Иванушки-International (boys' band which was EXTREMELY popular in 90's; "Тучи", "Тополиный пух", "Кукла Маша")
На-На (another boys' band, which started earlier than Иванушки; "Фаина", "Шляпа", "На-на над землей")
Smash!!! (two guys, who sang in english: "Belle", "Should have loved you more", "Freeway")

Well, one of my favorites is Космос

I think that's an awesome song, especially when I listen on a really good pair of headphones. And they speak the lyrics clearly, so I can understand them

wat did you mean by "И также эта очень приятно мне"?

Vuoklis, what it means is that I still don't understand the Russian language very well ... I'll study more and try to do better

    PS, thank you so much!

I know the OP is a few months old, but... nobody mentioned Света?! If you're looking for dance/techno, Света is amazing.

I think the best Света songs aren't on YouTube... the originals, anyway.

And I'm surprised nobody mentioned Оскар. He freaks me out a bit, but I like his music.

This is a rather good place to get Russian music. <.<
    Vanad teksad ja kitarr...
Nad on mul kõik, mida vajan nüüd
