Default Wanna Be Home For Christmas

I'm trying to remember the rest of this song. The word home is held for several beats, and so is you.

I wanna be, I wanna be home for Christmas
    [something something something] with you.

The song has something of a Carpenters sound/feel to it, but adding that to my searches hasn't helped.

    Thanks,
    T

PS. Now that I have found the old tape, I take back what I said about the Carpenters.

Reminds me of the song "I'll Be Home for Christmas" which has been recorded by hundreds of artists including the Carpenters.

    I'm dreaming tonight
    Of a place I love
Even more than I usually do
    And although I know
    It's a long road back
    I promise you

    I'll be home for Christmas
    You can count on me
    Please, have snow and mistletoe
    And presents on the tree

    Christmas Eve will find me
    Where the lovelight gleams
    I'll be home for Christmas
    If only in my dreams

The group Sister Hazel also recorded the song "I'll Be Home for Christmas" and changed some of the lyrics. One of the lines is very close to one you provided:

"I wanna be home for Christmas"
Them that can, do; them that can't... memorize Artist and Title

Thanks for the reply. I'm not looking for "I'll Be Home for Christmas". I'll keep singing that one little bit to myself and hope something more comes to mind.

Here are the lyrics. I still don't know the title or who recorded it.

As snowflakes fall in silence I think of home.
Wish that I was there and not alone.
    My story's been told before.
This is my first Christmas far from my first home.

I wanna be, I wanna be home for Christmas.
I wanna be, I wanna be home for Christmas.
I wanna be home with you
to share the things we always used to do.

Wonder if my family is missing me.
Bet they got the biggest Christmas tree.
There's love in my heart today
for all those special people far away.

I wanna be, I wanna be home for Christmas.
I wanna be, I wanna be home for Christmas.
I wanna be home with you
to share the things we always used to do.

I wanna be, I wanna be home for Christmas.
I wanna be, I wanna be home for Christmas.
I wanna be, I wanna be home for Christmas.

    Default Me, too!

I've been looking for this song since 1974. Heard it on radio once or twice, loved it, but could never find out who the artists were. I know it was a female singing lead and that there was a nice two-part harmony going on the chorus, plus, some nice chord changes taking place on the verses -- Bmaj7 - Gmaj7 - Bm7 or something close to it. I am also dying to find out who this was and if I could find a copy of a recording. Thanks so much for remembering the lyrics because I could only remember a few of the lines myself. Good luck and I'll do my best to find out what I can, too.

Just listened to the download... what a great song!
To my ear, the vocals are "overdubbed" by a single female singer but I don't recognize the artist. Like you said, it sounds like the Carpenters (but it's not Karen singing). However, it also reminds me of the Lennon sisters from the Lawrence Welk Show.

The disc jockey says something like "It's a Kino Christmas..." but then it cuts off.
What program was it recorded from ?

The disc jockey is saying "It's a KYNO Christmas." KYNO 1300 is a radio station in Fresno, California. The station's format has since changed, but in the late 1980's it would play solid Christmas music leading up to the holiday.

I'm glad you liked the song. Now you see why I was hoping to identify it.

I thought I had a possible winner with "Christmas from Far Away" by Gastronomical Unit but it was released in 2004.

Feels like I just found an old record I hunted for but could never find...I waited so long to hear some info on this song and never really expected to hear this song again, so thanks so much for the link. Though we're not sure who this is or even what the name of this song is, I feel blessed because I now have this song downloaded on my iPod for life! Music is the soundtrack to our lives and my life is now fuller....mahalo and aloha!!!!

Correction: the fourth line should be "This is my first Christmas far from my front door"
