1975/76 rock [with sample]

I've been asked to identify this short sample of an instrumental track. All I know is that it was heard [and part recorded] on a progressive rock radio station in 1975 or 1976. I've been unsuccessful in finding it so far. Sorry that's all the info I have right now.

Hey Scott....A good place to start might be Grand Funk Railroad. They used that cowbell in a lot of their stuff.

I did not recognize the song.
My wild guess for the artist is Deep Purple or Alice Cooper.
