    Default Structure of a song???

    I like to composed songs...

but the thing is I don't know what's the right structure...

Can it be alright if you're structuring your own song?

    Like:

    V1
    Refrain
    V2
    Chorus
    V3
    Bridge
    Ending

    Like that???

And how many lines in a verse or in chorus?

    thanks in advance!

I assume your talking about Lyrically right?

well actually how songs work, and obviously there are plenty of variations and different ways of doing things but mostly its done like this

    V1
    Refrain
    V2
    Bridge
    Chorus
    V1
    Refrain
    Bridge
    V3
    Chorus
    V4
    Mix up
    V5
    Chorus
    Ending

The Bridge goes right before the chorus like a connecting piece (bridge) from the refrain to the chorus. But almost the majority of songs don't even have a bridge, its not necessary. And don't forget the mix up. (Don't know the real word for it! ) Like where you change the melody of the song to change it up. or you just change up the music without any lyrics at all.
Like check these lyrics out by Lifehouse,

    Refrain 1
    Desperate for changing
    Starving for truth
    Closer where i Started
    Chasing after you

    Chorus 1
i'm falling even more in love with you
letting go of all i've held onto
i'm standing here until you make me move
i'm hanging by a moment here with you

    Refrain 2

    forgetting all i'm lacking
    completely incomplete
    i'll take your invitation
    you take all of me

    Chorus 2
now.. i'm falling even more in love with you
letting go of all i've held onto
i'm standing here until you make me move
i'm hanging by a moment here with you

    Mix up
i'm living for the only thing i know
i'm running and not quite sure where to go
    i don't know what i'm diving into
just hanging by a moment here with you

    there's nothing else to lose
    nothing left to find
    there's nothing in the world
    that could change my mind
    there is nothing else
    there is nothing else...

    Desperate for changing
    Starving for truth
    Closer where i Started
    Chasing after you

    Chorus 3
i'm falling even more in love with you
letting go of all i've held onto
i'm standing here until you make me move
i'm hanging by a moment here with you

i'm living for the only thing i know
i'm running and not quite sure where to go
    i don't know what i'm diving into
just hanging by a moment here with you

    Ending
    just hanging by a moment
    hanging by a moment..
    hanging by a moment...
hanging by a moment here with you..

but like I said...there are tons of variations to this. I can post more...if you want?

just let me know! also if you have any more questions you can also PM me.

Who cares about structure? As long as the song makes sense to you, then it's fine. If you are writing music for the purpose of making money, then yeah, I guess structure matters. But if you are writing for your own reasons then why let preconceived ideas influence how you write YOUR song?

When I write stuff I don't do it with a specific intent, I just write what comes to mind. Later, if I have to, I can always make changes to the arrangement.

    100% correct.
If you have in mind that You have to do this and keep this kind of structure it can keep you in a box and stop you from really releasing what you feel and want to tell. So if its just for your self than do it how you wish.
if its for money than....well you'd better keep a structure.

well the Mix up part is to keep it from getting boring and just the same thing again. But like I said you can do whatever you like and also some do the same thing again with the lyrics but change up the music to it, to keep it from getting boring. Their aren't many rules to music that cannot be broken. All I told you is what the usually way lyrics go in Mainstream music today. But also each Genre is different in its layout....etc

No, the bridge is in the first two Refrains right before the chorus. The third part does not usually have a bridge.

your best way of learning is listening. Listen very intently on exactly what people do. thats How I learned everything I know. Listen!
