    Actually the song is called "The Children of Piraeus" ("Ta pedia tou Pirea"). The name of the movie is "Never On Sunday", directed by Jules Dassin and starring his wife Melina Mercouri.

    But was almost right, wasnīt I
    At least I knew it was one of the great greek composers.

    This song also was a big hit in german language long time ago.

    The original question however, was what POPULAR song was it from so I guess that all depends on your point of view. In North America it is known by the title "Never On Sunday"

    However, I'm glad to now know its roots....TA
