The closest 1970's pyro song I can think of is "Type 0 Negative" by Black Sabbath.
Also try the following "non-Pyro" songs:
"Roads to Moscow" by Al Stewart
Two broken Tigers on fire in the night, flicker their souls to the wind
"All My Love" by Led Zeppelin
Should I fall out of love my fire in the night,
"There's A Fire In The Night" by Alabama
Them that can, do; them that can't... memorize Artist and Title
Thanks for the reply Atmaster.......unfortunately not any of those. It kind of has a music sound like "Flash & The Pan's" Walking in the rain....a little distorted and reverbish................guess I'll keep searching. Thanks for the quick reply.
More wild guesses...
"Johnny Was a Pyro" by Patty Larkin
"Burning Down The House" by Talking Heads

I'll throw my favorites into the ring....(The errrie sounding ones)

This may be completely obvious and you may have checked it out already, but based on what you said, Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple comes to mind. The line Fire in the Sky could be what you were thinking of maybe...
I had the same exact question and you couldn't have described the song more perfectly. I found it! It's called "The City Sleeps" by MC 900 Ft Jesus. Now we can all sleep, and so can the next person in two years.
never heard of these guys
Gott zur Ehr, dem nächsten zur Wehr
What if they gave a fire and nobody came.
