    Default Stratiotis piitis

My wife is crazy about the song Stratiotis Piitis sung by Kostas Karalis.

We both would love to have the lyrics in Greek letters.

We would love to have the Greek transliterated into roman characters.

We would love to have the translation of the Greek lyrics into English.

But even just having the lyrics in Greek letters would be great!

We have visited Greece on and off since 1952!!!

We are hoping to improve our Greek by learning lyrics and being able to understand the song without painful translation!

This is actually a poem by the Greek poet Miltos Sahtouris, turned into a song by Giannis Spanos.

Anyway, here you are, guys (as sung by Karalis).

    Den eho grapsi piimata,
    den eho grapsi piimata,
    mesa se krotous,
    mesa se krotous
    kilise i zoi mou.

    Tin mian imera etrema,
    tin alli anatrihiaza,
    mesa sto fovo,
    mesa sto fovo
    perase i zoi mou.

    Den eho grapsi piimata,
    den eho grapsi piimata,
    mono stavrous,
    mono stavrous
    se mnimata karfono.

    The Soldier Poet

    I have not written poems
    I have not written poems
    Amid alarms
    Amid alarms
Has my life gone its way

    One day I trembled
    The next day I shuddered
    In fear
    In fear
    Has my life moved on

    I have not written poems
    I have not written poems
    Only crosses
    Only crosses
    On graves I nail

    Thanks Panselinos!
I also thanked you in my little comment while adding to your reputation --- wrong place!
This is my first post on this web site so I don't know the rules yet.
    I love this web site.
I will explore the Greek language learning resources over summer break.
My wife and I will toast you during our Sunday Greek feast in a couple hours: στο γιαμασ!
