Does anyone have the lyrics to Saramaya? A translation would be cool too, but less important. Thanks!
Hi missFeudor,
I have Foly! Live Around the World, but the booklet does not contain lyrics. Saramaya is also on his Ma Ya album, but I don't have that one and also don't know if it has lyrics. But I do appreciate your idea!
I strongly recommend Foly! Live Around the World, it is fantastic!
Thanks!!
Hi Raggamonkey:
Thanks for the recommendation on Foly! I will definitely have to get that.
Ah! I didn't see it on Ma Ya. It is song #6 - Saramaya. Here are the lyrics and translation:
English:
How charming are the Malian women
especially the days of celebration
when you can see them dressed in their most beautiful boubou
and wearing their golden jewelry
this atmosphere of celebration is warmed up by the songs of the griottes
and the rythym of the djembre
Malian woman, charming woman
Thank you for being the pillar of the family,
of the children's education
and the perpetuation of our customs.

Dear missFeudor,
Thank you so very much for the Saramaya lyrics. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Hi Raggamonkey:
You're welcome. Glad to help fellow Habib fans. He is just so awesome.
It's great fun to sing along! Here is a link to the Bambara language which I've found helpful in learning the vowels and some short phrases.
Take care,
missFeudor

Hi El~Egipcio:
Thanks for the link to the Batoumanbe lyrics. It's one of my favorites.
Here is the English translation from the Baro CD liner notes.
Batoumanbe (name of a woman from the Bozo fishing tribe)
Two people from different worlds discover an impossible love
The young Bozo fisherman and the siren of the river.
They could neither be seen together, nor marry.
From their idyll, a proverb has grown.
"Not all love ends in marriage"
But love remains strong.
The fisherman said: "When I touch your breasts, it is not desire.
It is out of love for the owner of the breasts.
If I put my hand around your neck, it is not from the desire to touch your neck,
but for the love that I feel for the neck's owner.
My dear Boutmanbe, not all love ends in marriage"
