This isn't easy to translate, (because it isn't written in standard norwegian, but you probably know that) so it's probably therefor I'm the firts to reply.

At least this is th refrain:

Eg hev vori i dei kristne lando (I have been in the christian lands)
Der folki kallar på gud (Where the people are calling on God)
Eg e sterkar hell du (I am stronger than you)

Hopefully someone with more knowlegde about old norwegian can help you some more, or someone with a Telemark-dialect.

As Ole G mentioned above this is written in an old norwegian language. I’ll try my best to translate it, allthough there migth be lots of errors..

    Å høyre du Åsmund Fregdegævar
    Listen to me Åsmund Fregdegævar
    Hot eg seje deg:
    This I will tell you:
    Du hitar detta jønni heitt
    You find this iron* hot
Og send ded så hit at meg!
    And throw it towards me!

    Ref.
Eg hev vori i dei kristne lando
I have been to the christian countries
    Der folki kallar på gud
Where people are calling for God
    Eg e sterkar hell du
    I’m stronger than you

    Å ded var Åsmund Fregdegævar
    It was Åsmund Fregdegævar
    Hoggi han til med avle
He hew (his weapon) with power**
    Hoggi han til den skomegyvri
    He hew the skomegyvri***
Så odden stod i hennas navle
and the tip (of the weapon) was in her umbilicus

    Ref.

    Å Høyre du Åsmund Fregdegævar
    Listen to me Åsmund Fregdegævar
    Du løyser meg af vånde
You are releasing me from my sorrows
Du høgge meg i lyttinne två
    Cut me in two parts
    Og sja`v imillom dei gange
And you will walk between them

    Ref.

Å Um så talad den skomegyvri
This is what the skomegyvri said
Då hon datt så daud til jord:
When she fell dead to the ground:
Du skal `ki livands or bergi koma,
You will not come out from the mountain alive
Og inki livands ivir den fjord
And not come out of the fjord**** alive

    Ref. x2

    *probably refers to a sword
**I’m not sure this is the right translation of the word ”avle”
***Seems like skomegyvri is some kind of a creature(??), maybe from the old norse mythology (??) In this case it’s at least refering to something of a female gender.
****A fjord is a long, narrow arm of the sea bordered by steep cliffs, usually formed by glacial erosion (in Norway we have a lot of fjords )

I found this on wikipedia... It migth help to understand the lyrics..

"Åsmund Frægdegjevar is a medieval Norwegian legend and ballad (classification: TSB E 145) with several variations all detailing the adventures of a hero by the same name who is hired by the king to rescue a princess.

The story starts as many fairytales do: the fair princess has been captured and imprisoned in a faraway castle, and the King commissions a hero, in this case Åsmund, to rescue her. He and his brothers take the King's flagship Ormin Lange to the castle of the ogre Skomegyvri, where the princess is imprisoned. However, his brothers will not enter with him, so he goes alone.

He finds the princess with relative ease walking through the castle, and immediately falls in love with her. But she is under a spell of the ogre, and believing that Skomegyvri is her mother, will not leave with him. He then takes her by force.

On his way out, the ogre appears. They fight a long battle both physically and with curses and spells, but Åsmund eventually kills Skomegyvri. The princess being free from the spell, they plunder the castle and return home with all the ogre's treasure."

    My pleasure

By the way I can see I made an error in the last sentence in the last verse... The proper translation is

"Og inki livands ivir den fjord"
"And not cross the fjord alive"

I really think you should learn norwegian!! I've actually got a friend from Turkey who moved to Norway, and learned Norwegian really well in about 6 months!!!

If you like Lumsk I think you also might like the band 'Gåte', another norwegian folk rock band.

Here is some links to Gåte at youtube:
