Učenje Slovenščine /Learning Slovenian language :)

Well in the end such thread should appear =) especially for me
As some of u guys already know it, I'm really keen on Slovenian language and wanna learn it like crazy And the very bad thing is that there are NO books in Slovenian around me and all I've learned till now is on my own... and with the great help of merdzina*005 of course So now cuz I have pretty much time I decided I need some order in my head with all the things I've learned and I'm goona learn^^
So I wanna begin from the very beginning ;]
I have some holes in my knoledge like: I don't know how it is "this"or "that" Can sb tell me?

Tedinkyyy, of course there are books for learning the Slovene language. I have two of them! One is called "Colloquial Slovene" (although it is criticized for teaching "unnatural" Slovene), and the other is called "Učimo se Slovenščino!" and it is a very good book. I bought it in Slovenia. Very helpful, very well-written!

Listening to Slovene songs is ideal for learning the language. I like the passion of Siddharta, the humour of Magnifico, the expressiveness of Vlado Kreslin, and I simply ADORE the album "Ljubimec iz omare" by Zoran Predin & Mar Django Kvartet!!!

I listen to Slovenian singers too but they're unfortunately considered some of the worst ones... well I guess I just have bad taste lol

Don't mention it. (What's the Bulgarian answer to "благодаря"? "добре дошла"?) Well, when I told some Slovenes that I like Magnifico, they looked at me as if I had come from Mars! I don't know the styles that you like, but try Zoran Predin! He has a very masculine, bass voice, and he speaks really clearly.

The album that I mentioned above, "Ljubimec iz omare", is in Gipsy-Jazz style. The music is great, but his lyrics are a bit difficult for beginners. Nevertheless, they are original and clever!

Language lover, Magnifico rocks! I Do like him. He has some cool and cachy songs. Silvija, for example

I think we should start with an alphabet. =)

Aa (like a in car)
Bb (like e in let)
Cc (like ts in cats)
Čč (like ch in church)
Dd (like d in bad)
Ee (like e in let)
Ff (like f in fig)
Gg (like g in bag)
Hh (like h in huge: always pronounced)
Ii (like ee in meet)
Jj (like y in yes)
Kk (like k in kind)
Ll (like l in late)
Mm (like m in milk)
Nn (like n in new)
Oo (like o in short)
Pp (like p in post)
Rr (strong r like in Spanish word amor [love])
Ss (like s in seed)
Šš (like sh in ship)
Tt (like t in team)
Uu (like oo in soon)
Vv (like v in vine)
Zz (like z in zero)
Žž (like s in measure)

Some letters are sometimes pronounced differently. But that depends where the letter is locating.

Bb: If it's standing at the end of the word it's pronounced like p in put.
Example: Drab. /drap/ (Drab is a surname)
Grb. /grp/ = Coat of Arms

Dd: If it's standing at the end of the word it's pronounced like t in put.
Example: Gad. /gat/ = A viper [type of snake]

Ll: If it's standing at the end of the word, after the vowel it's pronounced like w in win.
Example: Postal sem. /postau/ = I've become.

Vv: If it's standing after a vowel or before a consonant it's pronounced like w in win.
If it's standing alone it's pronounced like oo in soon.
Example: Lestev. /lesteu/ = A letter.
V hiši. /U hishi./ = In the house.
Zdravje. /zdrauje/ = Health.

I'll try to translate you words you wrote in your post.

jezim - to be mad at - (from verb "jeziti se")
dotikate - touching (something) - ("dotikati se")
poveste - telling (somone) - ("povedati")
saj - because
ker mine vse - because everything comes to an end / ends, everything passes
res - true
zavetje - shelter
rišeš - (you) draw - ("risati")
iščeš - seeking, searching, looking for

Those are direct translations but I think it's mostly accurate although I didn't listen to the whole song.

Ja, jz hočem učit slovensko ampak zdej se učim srpščino in hrvaščino in potem se bom spet začela Učit slovenščino je res težko ampak upam se, da bom zmagla

@tedinkyyy: you are true multi-linguist Those 3 languages have some similair basics and I think you'll do just fine.

singo, they are not only very close to each other, but also to my native language Bulgarian the problem here is that there's a danger that I'll mess them awfully lol
At the moment I struggle to throw away the influence of Bulgarian in my Serbian speaking, then I guess, I'll have the same problem with Slovenian and the Serbo-Croatian influence :/

Hi! Glad to see that there is a current thread about the language!

I'm trying to learn the language, but need help with the pronounciation portion. I'm considered a very basic beginner....I understand the sounds in the alphabet and know some of the standard greetings, etc. Is anyone interested in Skype for maybe 10 minutes a few times a week?

Or...anyone interested in just helping me period? As in the first post, I have difficulty in getting materials also!

Glad to have additional artists to try out...I've mainly listened to Vlado Kreslin and hadn't found anyone else where I could make out the words.
