''Glupost je sama u sebe zaljubljena i njeno je samoljublje bezgranično.''
''Siamo niente senza fantasie''
''Наверное мне место на луне, но страшно оставаться в темноте''
ok, here's another confusing use of language i just don't understand. the following is what one of my friends posted online. I understand everything she is saying, but why the difference in "svoju adresu" and then "tvoja adresa"?? don't both mean "YOUR address"?? so why the different words?
Draga, lipo je bilo viditi te jucer. Sretno sa faksom sutra! Please napisi mi veceras svoju adresu da ti posaljem pozivnicu za baby shower. Jos mi samo fali tvoja adresa. Nemoj zaboraviti opet! Pusa!
Well, that should not be so confusing when you think about it..
Please napisi mi veceras svoju adresu = Please write YOUR (own) address...
Jos mi samo fali tvoja adresa = All I'm missing is your address.
She can not say "All I'm missing is your own address"
"Jos mi samo fali svoja adresa" would mean all i'm missing is MY OWN adress.
depending on the context "svoj" can somehow mean both yours and mine
i'm not sure how to explain it, but in the first sentence she is talking about you - "please napisi mi" - that's why 'svoju' meant 'yours'.
in the second sentence she was talking about herself "jos mi fali" that's why she can't use 'svoja' because it would mean "my own address" and must use "tvoja adresa" - "your address"
ahhhh...i kinda get it now...thanks...i know for native speakers you use those words probably without even thinking but it's going to take a while for me to use those words properly. i'm gonna keep trying! thanks again!
pthalo said it: when subject is giving his own something, it's svoja- subject and object are on the same side, subject does the verb of giving, subject does the object, so to say.
Ona daje svoju adresu- she gives something of her/ that belongs to her
direction: from me to you; giving
Fali mi tvoja adresa - She misses something of other person, she asks for it.
direction: from you to me; receiving
