"Mother"

Whatever I go through in life
Whatever sins and habits overtake me
Whatever I become
Please don’t let me be like her

In my anger and my hurt
I’ll react in my own way
If I can’t control it just please
Please don’t let me be like her

My outlook on life is flawed
I too have a mask to hide bitterness
But I’ll gladly keep it inside and die
As long as I’m never like her

Don’t ever let me turn a blind eye
To the horrible things I will most definitely do
As long as I’m aware
I know I won’t be like her

Because recognition is the most beautiful thing
In comparison to ignorance
It gives hope which cannot be seen
In anyone like her

A teacher from birth God has given me
And indeed I have learned well
To be everything she is not
I will not be like her

Please, please don’t let me
