SOLVED: "Because Eddie is dead"?

Heard this song the other day - It sounded a lot like Bobby Womack from what I remember but I haven't been able to find it... So maybe it ain't Womack?

The lyrics was something like:

"I don't want to be like Eddie/Frankie because Eddie/Frankie is dead"...

Pretty "groovy" r'n'b funk like music sounding somewhat like Womack.

Anyone know who might be responsible for that groovy but pretty serious song?

I got to hear the song and it's not the one.... It has got the "eddie's dead" but I specifically remember the song as "i don't want to be like eddie/frankie/? because eddie/frankie/?s dead"....

Also it was a bit more up-tempo and didn't have any sirens like this one...

Sounds like "Freddie's Dead" by Curtis Mayfield from the movie "Superfly".
(Curtis sings in a falsetto so the vocals could be confused as "female".)
