Hi,

I need help to understand the first verse of the song ya mayle for Fairouz.

يا مايلة عالغصون عيني سمرا يا حورية

مايلة = swaying
غصون = branches
عيني = my eye
سمرا = brunette / dark skin woman
حورية = poplars (?)

Those words together don't make sense for me.

it's not necessary to translate the song. I just want to understand the first verse.

Ya maylah - the one swaying (which is the Houria in here)

3ayni samra ya (is like showing her fascination and not to be literally translated)

a houria is a beautiful unrealistic girl.. like a fairy like illusion.. I think nymph is the correct term? as in Greek mythology

a spirit of nature in the form of a young woman, that lives in rivers, woods, etc..
nymph also means a very beautiful girl.
