    Default HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP again

    Hi,

I need help to understand the second verse of the song ya shahrazad for Fairouz. Thanks in advance

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1OPPaZc8mE

يا شهرزاد غني الهوى غني الليالي فالشوق عاد
يا شهرزاد و للنوى قصر ببالي رغم البعاد
و أعيدي و أعيدي وأعيدي يا شهرزاد
ما للأغاني عادت بنا صوب المغاني التي لنا
    يوم الصبايا زهر العشايا
    و للحكايا عطر يعاد
و أعيدي و أعيدي وأعيدي يا شهرزاد

    Thanks in advance

I've suffered from sepation, inspite of being away
Thank you Oriee but I still have some questions about the translation above.

    1) Nawa (نوى) - I thought it's means proposal , purpose , intention . Isnt't it ?

    2) Qasrun bibali ( قصر ببالي ) (a palace in my mind ?!) I don't understand how these words are related to the rest of the verse and to your translation.

    3) Bou3ad (بعاد) - Is this word spelled correctly ? I guess it is the plural of ba3id (باعِد) - distant/farway/absent and they are adjectives and not names. Wouldn't be either رغم البعد or رغم الأبعاد the correct way instead of رغم البعاد ?

    Thanks

I dont know where the qasr relates in Oriee's translation but I understood it the same way you did

Also for bou3ad, I think its just a dialect thing, its spelt the way the dialect pronouces it, but in classic arabic it would be البعد

But isn't it weird to mix words in fus7a and words in dialect in the same song ?

Anyway here is my attempt :

يا شهرزاد غني الهوى غني الليالي فالشوق عاد
Oh Scheherazade, sing the love and the nights , because the longing is back

يا شهرزاد و للنوى قصر ببالي رغم البعاد
Oh Shahrazad that intend is (strong as/like) a fortress/castle in my mind despite the distance

و أعيدي و أعيدي وأعيدي يا شهرزاد
And keep keep doing it oh Shahrazad

ما للأغاني عادت بنا صوب المغاني التي لنا
How have the songs returned to us towards ???????????(not sure how to translate mughanni) like those ones that we had ?

    يوم الصبايا زهر العشايا
The day of young women, the flower of the nightfall

    و للحكايا عطر يعاد
And a sweet smell is back to the stories

و أعيدي و أعيدي وأعيدي يا شهرزاد
And keep keep doing it oh Shahrazad

    You're welcom dear Mr. Asfora.

1)Yes it's but this is a verb نوى & its noun is نية.
أنوى الذهاب في عطلة إلى المكسيك
نويت الذهاب إلى المكسيك في العطلة
It has another meaning as noun which is النوى: البُـعْد, and this word is only fem. (Interesting!)
(نوى جمع ومفردها نواة have another meaning wich is date nucleus, Nawa here might be fem & masc. as well, & so neuclear (weapons) is أسحلة نووية).

    3) Yes it's spelt correctly, in fact both of them is correct بعد وبعاد, it has the same meanig as بعيد.
The word you wrote باعد is an imperative form. And for أبعاد means dimentions

    2) وللنوى قصر ببالي رغم البعاد
    قــَصَـرَ: نقص، جعله قصيرًا
So there's no such palace in the sentence
So the translation will be: Shortening sepation is in my mind despite being far away.

He's asking her to repeat the song(s)

ما للأغاني عادت بنا صوب المغاني التي لنا
    المغنى ج مغانٍ وهو المنزل
Why the songs took us back to the houses that belong to us
