Hi all, I'm looking for a song that my Dad had on some of his mix tapes. He didn't write track lists for them, unfortunately, and he passed away 14 years ago.

I have prepared a Youtube video to help me with my search: Mystery Song.

If anybody can help me identify this, I'd be eternally grateful. I've searched for years for this, posted in newsgroups, forums, everything. I've looked at the lyrics for every Peter, Paul and Mary song, every Anne Murray song, every Carpenters song, every New Seekers song that I can find, and nothing's turning up.

Without further ado, the lyrics:

Well I'm on the road to somewhere
And where I'm bound I can't tell
I see your face so clear before me
Like an ever-present dream

It's been so long since I've made love to you
I want to hold you in my arms
It's been so long since I've gazed into your eyes
And seen the laughter shining through

This old road goes on for miles and miles
It seems like it will never end
I know there's one thing that I've got to do
Is turn around and make my way back to you

Cause it's been so long since I've made love to you
I want to hold you in my arms
It's been so long since I've gazed into your eyes
And seen the laughter shining through

Instrumental break (guitar, piano, strings)

But I don't understand what it was that made me leave
I don't know if I ever will
All I know is that I love you
And I'll be back this time to stay (say?)

Now I'm on the road to somewhere
And where I"m bound is to you
I see your face so clear before me
And I can almost touch your hand

Oh it's been too long since I've made love to you
I've got to hold you in my arms
It's been too long since I've gazed into your eyes
And seen the laughter shining through

It's been too long since I've made love to you
I've got to hold you in my arms
It's been too long since I've gazed into your eyes
And seen the laughter shining through
Thanks!
