Can someone help me refine my translation a bit? I've been studying German for four years, so most of my problems lay with German euphemisms and various German-only expressions.

The Toten Hosen reference confused me because the Toten Hosen /are/ from Düsseldorf and also play punk, so I assume it was a pun .

It seems odd to me that 'Über Köln gibst tausend Lieder, hier wird gefeirt und gelacht' is using the 'wir' pronoun. I thought 'wird' was using the past tense of werden', not 'wir hat'. Of course, in the same sentence, one could think that 'gibst' is from 'geben', not, 'gibt es'.

In Germany the are KÖLN is known for being people who like to laugh a lot and when we have carneval, that area makes a bit party out of it.

Do you have any idea where the expression "es gibt" came to become "there are/ there is'? "It gives" seems like a rather odd way of expressing "there are".

Although german is my mother tonge it´s hard for me to explain grammar things... lets try:

There are a lot of thigs to tell = Es gibt viel zu erzählen

The child gives me the ball = Das Kind / ES gibt mir den Ball

There is a supermarket over there = Dort drüben GIBT ES einen Supermarkt

Ich hat nicht bevor dass wissen, danke, das war interessant. Doch die Frage war über die Geschichte der 'es gibt/gibt es'. Weißt du die?

I discovered some mistakes and because there are too many of them, I wrote the more correct form underneath. There were too many to correct one by one.

** I am not sure about this one. I’m not from Köln. I know a similar expression, it is called “Geldhaie” - (literal “Money-Sharks), and I think that is what the writer meant.

I have a new idea what the singer means with "Sharks/Hai"
There is a Ice hockey club in Collogne called "HAIE" (Sharks) and I guess the singer refers tot this club.

I'm pretty sure you're right. There is a hockey club in Cologne called "Die Haie."
In the song the singer/ writer is expressing pride of the local sports teams.
He mentions the soccer and hockey clubs.

The FC Koeln ( soccer club) is here at home
And here we have "The sharks"( hockey club)
