al quds is a part of jerusalem? or is it a nickname for jerusalem?

Al Quds is Jerusalem in Arabic

For Al Quds:
I know it does mean Jerusalem, but I started thinking why Al Quds's name change when speaking in another language? yani all cities around the world keep thier origingal names whatever the langauge we use, Dubai is Dubai, Cairo is Cairo, Paris is Paris, so why Al-Quds is an exception?
