Kettcar - Am Tisch (At the table)
A very sad song, actually. Old friends meet every year for dinner. They're telling about their lives, about travels and other superficial stuff. And during their small talk they find out, how unhappy everyone is with their lives. The first part is from the view of a guy, who is unsuccessful and chose a different lifestyle (maybe a musician). When he hears about the lives of his friends he still feels sympathy, but even more envy. The second part is from the view of his friend, who has a stuffy, bourgeois middle-class life, feeling that he has to justify himself for being in the rat race and giving up his ideals from the youth for a standard life, he actually hates. Still everyone tries to keep up the friendly atmosphere, drinking together, what doesn't work with all the frustration inside.

Ich bin nicht verbittert
probier das nur aus
Jetzt nach dem Essen
ich will eigentlich nur noch nach Haus
Sie geben nicht an
sie lassen nur wissen
Bin ich noch ungerecht oder schon neidisch?
Es sind deine ältesten Freunde
wohl beides
Es schimmert nur durch
Es steht in der Luft zwischen uns
I‘m not embittered,
I‘m only trying it.
Now, after the dinner,
Actually, I just want to go home.
they don‘t show off,
they just let (everyone/me) know.
Am I still unfair or already envious?
They are your longest friends,
arguably both.
It‘s shining through
It‘s in the air between us.
Und all diese Themen, ja das sind gute Themen
Übers Kochen und Reisen und was wir so nehmen
bevor gleich einer sagt
So, das war‘s
Erhebt euer Glas
Kommt, erhebt euer Glas
And all of these topics, yes, these are good topics,
about cooking and travelling and what we are taking
Before soon somebody says:
Okay, that‘s it.
Raise your glass!
Come on, raise your glass!
Ein Toast
auf das Leben
das Glück
nur ich, ich komm nicht mehr mit
mit dem Leben
dem Glück
Ein Toast
auf die Freundschaft
die Gewissheit
in einem Jahr
von hier und jetzt an
kommt sicher das Mitleid
Cheers to the life, the luck
just me, I can‘t follow (/match) anymore: the life ,the luck
Cheers to the friendship
the certainty,
in a year from here and now on
there sure will be sympathy
-
Wir waren immer so stolz darauf
dich zu kennen
Mehr Ahnung von allem
als wir alle zusammen
Hier sagst du erst nichts
und dann diesen kryptischen Mist
We always have been so proud
that we know you
More knowledge of everything
than we all together.
Here, you‘re first saying nothing
and then this cryptical crap.
Wir haben uns entschieden
so wie die meisten
Fürs Rattenrennen
und fürs Eigenheim leisten
Und du blickst herab
mit diesem Wissen was los ist
We have chosen, like most have,
the rat race and affording a home
And you‘re glancing down
with this knowledge what is going on
Dieser Abend kein Fehler
und wenn dann nicht meiner
Ich bin kein Verräter
und fühl mich wie einer
Denkst du denn ernsthaft, dieses Leben macht Spaß?
Erhebt euer Glas
Kommt, erhebt euer Glas
This evening (is) not a mistake,
and if it is, it‘s not mine
I‘m not a traitor
but I feel like one
Do you really think, that this life is fun?
Raise your glass!
Come on, raise your glass!
Ein Toast
auf das Leben
seine Lügen
und wie wir uns zeitlebens abmühen
für nichts
und gar nichts
Ein Toast
auf das Leben
einen Platz
auf dem man einmal so sein kann
wie man ist
wer man ist
Cheers to the life and its lies
and how we‘re struggling throughout our life
for nothing and nothing at all
Cheers to the live, a place, where you can (finally) be
how you are,
who you are.
The short dialog in the middle of the video is:
"Barcelona... dann Madrid, dann..."
"Aber sag mal, lohnen sich all diese 60 Stunden für sowas?"
"Was ist denn das jetzt für eine Frage?"
"Ich mein, es spielt doch eine Rolle, ob sich das lohnt, oder nicht?"
"New York lohnt sich alleine schon wegen der Hot Dogs mit Sauer*****, die's da gibt"
"Barcelona... then Madrid... then..."
"But honestly, is it worth all those 60 hours for something like this?"
"What kind of question is this?"
"I mean, it matters if it's worth it, doesn't it?"
"New York is worthwhile alone because of the hot dogs with sauer***** they have"
Mmh... why is Sauer***** censored? It's actually a quite harmless dish.
