    1. The most common word for People in Hindi is Log

In movies you come across this dialogue many times: Log kya kahenge! - Whal would people say!

You can hear the pronunciation in this song: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs1Zj8vbOU4

    2. Perhaps the the word you are referring to is Manushya

Manushya is used when referring to mankind or humans as a whole

    for eg.

Mahushya ek swaarthi prani hai - Man is a selfish creature (No particular person but mankind as a whole)

    3. The words for Man (male) include -

    Purush
    Aadami
Nar - Not usually used in colloquial hindi to refer to a man though quite frequently used for animals Eg: Nar Haathi - Male elephant

Another word you might come across is insaan - it is usually used as Person (irrespective of Gender)

    Eg.

Woh ek achchha insaan hai - He is a good person

Woh ek achchhi insaan hai - She is a good person

Har insaan ko mehnat karni chahiye - Every person (be it man or woman) should do hard work.

    To Summarise:

When Talking of People - Log
    Man (male) - Aadami, Purush
Mankind as a whole - Manushya
Person (irrespective of Gender) - Insaan

    Hope it helps

Here is a little exercise if you would like to do

Fill the balnk with the most suitable word.

1.woh ________ jo us aurat se baat kar raha hai, mera dost hai - The man talking to that woman is my friend.

    2. __________ ko sach bolna chahiye - A person should speak the truth

    3. ek ______ gainda gaaon mein ghus aaya - a male rhinoceros entered into the village.

    4. ______ aur Stri ko ek doosre ka samana karna chahiye - Man and woman should respect each other.

    5. Pedon ko kaat kar __________ prakriti ko asantulit kar raha hai - By cutting trees man is creating an imbalance in nature.

    log ko sach bolna chahiye

    so 'rom' is not hindi?
    Almost perfect

    But...

    Remeber

Whenever log is followed by ne, ko, se, ka, ki, ke it gains an 'on' sound in the end and becomes

    logon ko sach bolna chahiye.

Sorry friend I am not familiar with this word rom

Gagan came across and got curious.

aadami=man ....aadmi=plural form?(more males) or is used for "people"(more male and females)

pathi=husband(only or can men mean also?)

hmm about the "purush"i don't think is used often...i believe most ppl say "ladka" and if it is elder the colloquial form "uncle".I am right?

    Hi

The Sing and plural of Adami is the same Adami only

Pati means Husband and cannot be sudstituted for men

    Purush means man
    ladka is boy
and as we know every boy is a man but not every man is a boy ...

    No...Purush is not uncle

Usually ppl use uncle in hindi too
But talkind of relatives there are specific words

Taya or Taoo - Your father's elder brother
Chacha - Your father's younger brother
    Mama - Your mother's probher
Mausa - The husband of your aunt (mom's sis)
Foofa - The husband of your aunt (dad's sis)

A question, please: what does मैं तो mean in this sentence?

    पिछली ईद मैंने अपनी मां के घर क्वेटा में गुज़ारी है, उस ईद के नज़ारे मैं कभी नहीं भूल पाऊंगी. मैं तो क्या हमारे समुदाय का हर व्यक्ति उसी मानसिक यातना से गुज़र रहा है.

    Thanks a lot.

Greetings. I wonder what is the difference between these two sentences:

    विरोधियों ने ट्रेड यूनियन की जिस इमारत को अपना ठिकाना बनाया हुआ उसमें आग लगा दी गई है (BBC Hindi).

    and the same without गई:

    विरोधियों ने ट्रेड यूनियन की जिस इमारत को अपना ठिकाना बनाया हुआ उसमें आग लगा दी है.

    Thanks in advance.
    विरोधियों ने ट्रेड यूनियन की जिस इमारत को अपना ठिकाना बनाया हुआ Hai/ Tha उसमें आग लगा दी गई है

This sentence with Hai/tha is more comple

    It translates to

The Trade Union building with the opposition is/was using as base has been set on fire.

The Gai Hai part makes it a complete statement leaving no space for any ambiguity

    eg.

Kal raat ek varisht patrakaar ka qatl kar diya gaya - Yesterday night a senior journalist was/has been killed.

if you add tha in end

Yahan kuch mahine pehle ek varisht patrakaar ka qatl kar diya gaya tha - Here some months back a senior journalist had been killed.

But coming to the second sentence

    विरोधियों ने ट्रेड यूनियन की जिस इमारत को अपना ठिकाना बनाया हुआ उसमें आग लगा दी है it may be translated the same but it sounds
incomplete seeking the Doer of action it would have been better if it told who did the action.

    विरोधियों ने ट्रेड यूनियन की जिस इमारत को अपना ठिकाना बनाया हुआ tha उसमें suraksha balon ne आग लगा दी है

The Trade Union building with the opposition is/was using as base has been set on fire by security forces..

    in other example

Kal raat ek varisht patrakaar ka qatl kar diya . By Whom?

Kal raat kuch agyat vyaktiyon ne ek varisht patrakaar ka qatl kar diya - Yesterday night a senior journalist was killed by some unknown persons.

So we can say - Gaya or Gayi form is used when we don't wish to tell who the doer of the action is. Atleast not in that particular sentence. The speaker might mention the doer later.

But if you frame it without gaya or gayi you are obliged to mention who did the action otherwise it looks incomplete.

    Hope it helps

You can say so...but Apne ke liye is grammatically wrong... it is always Apne liye (for myself)

    Examples might help

    Eg.

Kal main aur Trisha coffe shop mein miley. Trisha ne ek sandwich order kiya aur mainey apne liye ek cold coffee.

Yesterday me and Trisha met at a coffee shop. Trisha ordered a sandwich and I ordered a cold coffee for myself. (First Person)

    Eg 2.

    Conversation

Person 1 - Tum Dubai se apne liye kya laye? - What did you bring for yourself from Dubai.
Person 2 - Main Dubai se apne liye ye ghadiyan laaya - I brought these watches for myself.
Person 1- Aur mere liye? - And for me?
